  • Advice for Psychology?

I'm a bit worried. My goal is to get a PhD in psychology, personally I love psychology and think it's a very interesting subject but after doing some research I found how high the unemployment rate is for psychology majors. Is this data effected by the fact that a bachelors degree is basically worthless? Anyone have advice?

  • How is Frisian closely related to English?

Frisian is the second closest language related to english, the first being scotts. But how exactly are they close? Grammar? Wording? Verbs? Does this mean it is easier to learn than, say, german for a native english speaker?

  • What language should I learn?

Im trying to find a language that sounds unique, that a friend and I can learn to speak. It doesnt have to be widely spoken, Ive been looking at native american languages, I was thinking of cherokee, but the tones seems too difficult, I was also looking into afrikaans. I would prefer the language to not be insanely hard, I understand no language is "easy" but this language is for fun. I already speak spanish, and Im really not interested in another romance language. Anyway, any ideas would be great!!

  • Does anyone else eat dry pasta noodles?

I like to munch on dry noodles, really any kind from ramen to spaghetti noodles, though noodles like spaghetti are much more common than ramen. Does anyone else do this? Is it bad health wise?

  • Can someone help with permanent retainers?

I had braces for about a year and a half, after i got these removed, without my permission or even informing me they put permanent retainers, on the top and bottom of my teeth. Ive had these for a little over a year, but enough is enough, im sick of them. There are a few reaons for this, one they get on my nerves VERY badly, the wire makes my tounge sore, I study foreign languages, but these retainers can make it difficult for me to pronounce certain sounds which are hard for a native english speaker to pronounce anyway, i cant floss the teeth that has these retainers and its harder to brush with them on which im worried will inmterfere with health.

I dont like to complain but im tired of them. On of the wires can out of place so i have to make an appointment anyway, at this appointment i plan to confront the orthodontist about these pains in the butt and tell him to remove them. This is unchangable they are coming off, both my parents had removable night retainers and their teeth are fine. I would like to know about the alternative retainers, hawley and the others. I would also like to know more about the nature of teeth so i can pose an intelligent arguement, i dont want to say "I want them off because i do" i want to understand the anatomy of the teeth a bit more.

  • What foreign language should i learn?

So, im looking for a easy foreign language my friend and i can pick up quickly. I understand no foreign language is "easy" but it needs to be simpler considering it will be my fourth language. As of now i speak English fluent, spanish advanced, and am beginning chinese. But i want one more language which may replace chinese further down the road, and i can use in public, and i don't look weird speaking it (i look european so speaking japanese might look odd xD!)

Ive looked online, and attempted a google search, but they dont have languages like dutch or Irish, or Afrikaans on most websites.

Ive looked at things like German (The grammer is to difficult), and Irish, and Afrikaans (WAY to much flem, i like the flemish sound but its extreme in Afrikaans) Ik im complaining haha.

Anyway i was just curious at some sugesstions people could come up with, or advice in finding a language

  • Irish Gaelic or German?

So a group of my firends and i want to learn a foriegn languadge, weve narrowed it down to either Irish Gaelic, or German. We want the languadge to be absolutly un-understandable to listeners, but we also dont want the languadge to be extremly hard to learn. We dont care at all if the languagde is un-useable outside of our group.

I cant decide, if anyone has ideas on which please say, and maybe give a few reasons why =P Any other easy languadges which one may suggest please say, though im pretty sure it will either be irish or german

    (I already speak spanish)

  • How can christians say the quaran saying to kill an infidel is bad? Seems hypocritical?

Deuteronomy 17:12 - kill people who dont listen to priests, Exodus 22:17- kill witches, Leviticus 20:13 - kill homosexuals, Leviticus 20:27 - kill fortune tellers, Exodus 21:15 - kill child who hits there parents, Leviticus 20:9 - kill child for cursing parents, Leviticus 20:10 - kill adulterers, Leviticus 21:9 - Death for fornication, Exodus 22:19 - Death to followers of other religions, Chronicles 15:12-13 - Kill non believers, Zechariah 13:3- kill phalse prophets, Deuteronomy 13:13-19- Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God, Deuteronomy 22:20-21- Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night, Deuteronomy 13:7-12- kill followers of other religions, Leviticus 24:10-16- Death for blasphemy, Deuteronomy 13:1-5- Kill phalse prophets, Romans 1:24-32- INFIDELS and gays should die, Numbers 1:48-51- Kill Anyone who Approaches the Tabernacle, Exodus 31:12-15- Kill People for Working on the Sabbath

All above are examples of god commanding people to be murdered for certain cuases, there are much more examples of this, other then what i have posted, even if the quaran does say kill and infidel, look what the bible says! How is it any different? Seems extremly hypocritical.... And dont use the oh so common answer, "because jesus came and changed it all" because it says in James 1:17/ Mal 3:6/ Ezek 24:14/ Num 23:19-God is unchangeable....

  • Should i learn mandarin or cantonese?

I know this has been asked many times, but i would still like to make sure whichever i learn first (i plan to learn both) is applicable. I read that mandarin is more of a "set in stone" language, where as cantonese is harder and has a lot of difficult rules, such as more tonals, but more incorrect use of tonals, this dosent bother me, im fairly good at learning languages and dont see myself having to much of a problem.

My biggest 3 fascinations with china are the monks, culture, and history. My dream would be to go live in a buddhist monestary for a short while. =)

As for where i would go is tricky, i would be switching between small villages and big cities, tho is i had to predict, i would guess i would be spending most of my time in smaller villages.

I do have friends from china who have been teaching me phrases in chinese, but i dont know which they are lol! They didnt know what Mandarin and Cantonese even where, because in china they say Pu tong hua (Mandarin) Guang dong hua (Cantonese). I just learned that today so i havent asked them which theyve been teaching me yet.....

As for other learning tools im sure i can find infor on both though i know mandarin has alot more on it.

Anyway based on my situation which would be best to learn first? Or have a better grasp on?
