  • Any tips on treating a UTI?

My doctor put me on nitrofurantoin for a week but 2 days after finishing the course it was back. I'm now on trimethoprim and will b having a sample sent of to be tested when I've finished the course.

I'm not sure if it's working so wondered if there was anything I could do in the meantime.

My Filipino friend recommended green tea and coconut water which seems to be helping (I've never drunk so much fluid in my life!) and I'm going to get some cranberry capsules.

    Is there anything else?

  • Do anyone have advice for treating sinusitis?

Hey guys, I've just been diagnosed with a sinus infection and my doctor has prescribed me some Clarithromycin antibiotic but she says there's a possibility this won't help. Does anyone have any advice for home remedies to relieve some of the symptoms? The smell from my nose is terrible and is making me nauseous :( I'm getting some decongestant pills from the chemist tomorrow, any other tips?

  • Does this sound like asthma?

For a while now I've been getting coughing (with phlegm), wheezing and tightness in my chest during or just after cardio exercise which I've put down to unfitness.

A few months ago I ended up with bronchitis and was put on steroids and a preventer inhaler and since then I've been getting these symptoms at other times too and every time I get a cold it goes straight to my chest.

3 days ago I didn't feel unwell but started sneezing and having a runny nose which is now just a phlegm-y cough and wheeziness which is alot worse at night and disappears during the day.

I saw a doctor this afternoon and she said my lungs were clear even though this morning I was in a state.

Does this sound like it could be asthma? Could I have had a reaction to something that brought on an attack?

  • Why would my Samsung TV turn itself on and off?

We've had it for about 18 months and I decided to get it hooked up correctly (so I assumed)

    It went from this:

Digi box (sky) - TV via RF cable

    DVD - TV via scart

    VCR not connected

    to this:

Digi box - TV via scart

DVD - Digi box via scart

VCR - Digi box and TV via RF cable

Although I'm sure someone had used it in the meantime without any problems when my mum went to watch it, it began turned itself on and off every few seconds and she insisted I put everything back the way it was. So far it's been OK since.

Is there anything about the altered connection that would cause a problem? Any advice greatly appreciated!

  • Looking for Marilyn Monroe picture...?

I saw a picture whilst perusing on the web a while ago and thought my sister would love to have it printed off, now I can't for the life of me find it! We all know of the pictures of her on the beach in the famous bathing suit with the red polka dot umbrella. Well the image I saw was like a collage of all those pictures put together and it looked slightly arty. If anyone has it or knows where I can get it please let me know!

  • My dog is bloated with supposed heart failure - what now?

In the autumn last year my dog (a possible whippet cross, age 11) started acting oddly (repetitive behaviour, whining etc) so we saw the vet and they suspected senile dementia. Then a few months ago now my dogs abdomen puffed up overnight - it looked like she was pregnant. Again we saw the vets and after some tests (blood and scan) they came to the conclusion she had heart failure and gave us fortekor and a diuretic and voila! Nearly straight away our old dog was back, the "senile dementia" completely disappeared and the bloating too. Now jump forward a few months and the bloating is back but now it's in her neck and her face is puffed up too. Plus sometimes her breathing seems slightly laboured. I'm assuming it's definately heart failure considering the way she reacted to the medication but why is no longer working as well. Is it just the condition worsening? I'm not sure what to do as my vets practice isn't the best in the world but I can't afford to take her anywhere else. I love her to bits and don't want to lose her yet so I'd love it for a genuine vet to answer this question!

  • Candled my duck egg, is it alive?

I have two duck eggs in an incubator with 14 days till hatch day. The first egg is doing great I can see the blood vessels and the baby moving and everything - it's the second egg I'm not so sure of. Although I can see the air sack and the rest of the egg is dark I can't make out anything else like I can in the first egg. Is it dead? Should I give it more time? Both eggs were fertile when candled at 7 days.

  • Unexplained nausea...?

Several times I've had this really odd feeling. When I stand up and walk around I gets this nauseus feeling in my abdomen and feel awful - although I don't feel the need to vomit - but it goes away as soon as I sit down. I haven't been able to find any links with what I've been eating or drinking so I'm at a loss.

  • What pain relief did you get after surgery?

I had my gallbladder removed through keyhole surgery, and I didn't think of it at the time because I was so out of it, but I was sent home the same day with paracetamol as a pain med. I took 56 in a week. I couldn't sleep lying down because I couldn't breathe, I would get waves of fever and shakes which nearly resulted in my mum ringing an ambulance she was so concerned. Then speaking to other people who have had the same operation find out they were given morphine! What the hell happened there! What did you get?

  • Are you afraid of dying?

Somehow my brother and I got on this topic and he seemed slightly disturbed when I said I wasn't. I explained I don't WANT to die but if it was going to happen I wouldn't be too concerned. That seemed to make it worse...

  • What's your opinion on religion?

Without being offensive, do you believe in god, church anything of that nature? I don't for reasons I won't detail but I'm interested in what others gain from it.

  • Bleeding from navel after keyhole surgery?

OK last April I had keyhole surgery to remove my gallbladder and just before christmas I started having problems. Basically I have a pretty much constant discharge from my belly button, which when I wake in the morning is a yellow gunk. I try to leave it alone as much as possible except to dry it but on several occasions if I messed around to much there's fresh blood. Now I'm seeing a doctor again for the 5TH time next week. I've already been on 3 courses of antibiotics because streptacoccus was found on a swab, but the discharge won't go away. I've seen 2 different doctors, the first one was pretty useless ( I saw this guy 3 times) and the second doctor was alot nicer but was reluctant to refer me back to the hospital because "it can bring it's own problems".

Basically I want to know if anyone has had a similar experience what the problem actually was or if anyone else has any ideas cos I'm fed up with this now. I have a feeling the infections are a symptom of something else.
