  • What is the title of this book? -- YA, funny?

So... Unfortunately I remember very few details...

It had a black cover with colourful designs and/or writing on it. It's a YA book.

I remember there was a part where the girl goes out to see a musical with her friend and he has strawberry rolling papers. She comes home high and tries to keep her parents unaware except she entirely misses this huge tree they have sitting in their house.

Also, the writing was really funny. And I think it may have been a memoir.

Not too helpful, I know, but I've been trying to think of it all day, and I can't for the life of me figure it out!

I also remember that it had all this interesting font throughout, like some words would be way bigger than others and things like that.

  • What are some of the funniest YA books you have read?

I'm looking for laugh out loud funny books here. I haven't really read this genre in a while, but I remember I loved the Georgia Nicholson books when I was younger.

Perhaps some less commonly known funny books as well?

  • I just cut myself--but it's turning purple?

So, I just cut myself, and before anyone goes all "Don't do that you emo freak", let me just say that I already regret doing it. It's always the same: I do it, I regret it, and then later on, I do it again. I don't do it often. Yes, I probably need to seek help. I'm not looking for people to tell me that.

My point is that the cuts are only about an hour or two old, the bleeding stopped a while ago, so it wasn't too deep, however, the skin right around the cuts has turned purple... Previous times that I've cut, this hasn't happened, so I'm a little worried. (I cut myself on my upper thigh this time, more to the outside). Perhaps the purple is just like skin bruising... But of course my crazy brain is thinking Oh no, blood poisoning, or infection! ... Is the purpling normal, or should I be seriously concerned?

Remember, I only did this a few hours ago, it's not like it's been festering for days or something.

  • Hair loss in a teenage female - is it fixable?

I'm a 17 year old girl and though I have had fairly thin hair all my life, I've recently noticed that it seems to be thinning dramatically. The fact that it was already thin to begin with does not help my situation. My hair is curly and fine. The curls benefit me in that they help to conceal the thinness, but also are a negative aspect because my hair becomes tangled quite easily which I suspect does not help when trying to comb it. I have done a lot of research and have read all the possible reasons, but I still have no idea what is causing my hair loss. I think it gradually worsened throughout my grade 11 year, and then when summer began it suddenly began falling out a lot. I have read that hair loss, especially from stress and the like, can in fact happen weeks or months after the actual problem occurred. I know my second semester was very stressful for me, so I am wondering if that may be the problem. However, I have been definitely losing a lot of hair every day for at least a month now.. that seems very excessive to me. Shouldn't the hair loss have slowed down by now?

I know it is normal to lose 50-100 strands a day, and I can't tell if I am either losing more than that, or if, since my hair was already so thin, I simply can't afford to lose that much, even if it's "normal". I get stressed out very easily, so I assume that is part of the problem. I've gone for a blood test and am waiting for the results, so I suppose if that tells me I am iron deficient or have a thyroid problem, that could be the reason as well. But if those are not the reasons, I do not know what the problem is. My diet isn't perfect, but I don't think it's that bad, and I've tried to eat much healthier recently anyway.

Does anyone have any advice for me--as to why this might be happening, and what I can do about it? And most of all, if anyone can tell me if you have personally experienced this and IF IT GREW BACK, that would be great. I've read a lot of other questions on here, asking about the same thing, but of course I do not know if all those girls out there in the same boat as me actually solved their problem. So, if anyone can just give me a little hope and tell me that it is possible to solve this before it's too late, that they went through a similar situation but by doing x y and z they were able to fix it, PLEASE DO SO! :)

  • Tips on attending a concert at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre (Florence & the Machine)?

I'm seeing Florence and the Machine at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON, and my friend and I have lawn tickets. Therefore, they are GA and I'm wondering how early we should arrive. The doors open at 6:30, so for people with past concert experience at this venue, when would you suggest we get there if we want to be as close to the stage as possible? (I know, the lawn is at the very very back). Also, seeing as we'll be outdoors, what would you suggest we wear? It's all the way at the back, and especially because of the genre, I'm expecting a fairly calm concert crowd... I've been to some pretty crazy mosh pit filled concerts where on the floor it's suggested "don't wear shorts" "don't wear earrings" "don't wear flip flips" etc. Should I be that careful about my attire for a concert like this? Also, I've heard stories about people bringing blankets and stuff and sitting on that while watching the show... Is that what you would recommend?

Any advice you have about attending a concert at this venue, or a Florence & the Machine concert in general would be very much appreciated!

  • Rise Against concert/Air Canada Centre question...?

So this Thursday, May 10, I'm going to see Rise Against at the ACC. And I am just wondering what those of you who have been to see RA or been to the ACC before would suggest to me about arrival time... I have GA tickets, so it's obviously like first come first serve when it comes to how close one would be to the stage... I'm going with my friend, and we're just wondering how early we should plan to arrive there? The concert starts at 7, and unfortunately we do have to go to school for a little bit that day, but we want to get there as soon as possible. So, to those who have seen RA or been to the ACC for a show before, what would be our ideal time to get there?

  • Is a filter what I need to buy to protect the lens of my camera?

I bought a Canon Rebel T3i a couple of months ago, and decided against buying a lens protector/lens filter/I'm not entirely sure what the sales person called it. But now that I have a bit more money again, I'd really rather have something that covers the lens at all times (I'm obviously not talking about a lens cap) so that it's protected. Because I'd really hate for the lens to get scratched or anything. So, since I can't exactly remember what I was told at the time, is it a filter that I'm looking for? Because all the research I've done about UV filters or skylight filters, etc. have told me that filters are used to change the quality of the photos and mainly used in film photography. So... what do I want if I just want something that is totally clear, won't change the way my photos look, and just protects the lens?

  • What is another way to say "in exchange"?

I'm looking for a synonym for the phrase "in exchange". My goal is to not use the word "in", because it seems awkward with the current sentence structure that I'm using.

The sentence is "This man takes her in, in exchange for her assistance with his new invention."

The two "in"s beside each other seems awkward to me.

  • Questions about aperture in DSLR cameras?

I am taking a photography course at my high school, and we have been using SLR cameras, manual black and white film ones, where you set the aperture and the shutter speed and whatnot. Now however, we have this fairly lengthy assignment where we have to write about a number of photos we have chosen. One of the requirements is to write "an explanation of how the photograph was created, and a description of the technical aspects". This refers to f/stops and shutter speeds as far as I know.

What I am wondering though, is for photos that are NOT black and white, but are modern, colour, shot obviously on a modern digital camera (because we could choose any type of photos we wanted) would a photographer still set the shutter speed and aperture?

I know cameras automatically set that, but as a professional photographer, with an expensive professional camera, can you alternatively have it so that you set that yourself? And if so, are the apertures and shutter speeds still the original f/2, f/2.8, f/4, etc. and 1/30th, 1/60th, 1/125th, etc. ?

  • What genre of music would choral/chant music that's often in movies be classified as?

The sort of soundtrack accompanying movies or games, where it's insanely epic with the orchestra and the choir, singing just.. epically. :P Often in Latin or something probably, although not necessarily. I'm just trying to emphasize that I'm not talking about regular church choir music, or like popular religious music of today.

Does the epic stuff have a genre? Or would it just be called choral or chant?

I believe I have heard a title for it before, or even just "in the style of..." a certain composer. Any ideas?

  • I'm trying to think of this song, I feel like it's similar to Hallelujah?

It's just one of those songs that everybody knows and performs, like one of the songs that is just so overdone. But at the same time, it's okay, because it's so good. I had a better idea of how it sounded earlier, I've really lost it now, but I feel like it's quite melancholy. I'm thinking similar to Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen or Mad World by Gary Jules... I think...

I know that's not a lot to go on, but it's bugging me !! Anyone have any ideas?

  • "setting" the dye in new clothes?

So I know some people say the idea of vinegar and/or salt in cold water doesn't actually work, or at least not anymore, but for the people who think it does...

-How much vinegar, how much water and how long do I let it soak?

-If it doesn't work, the vinegar at least won't hurt my clothing, right?

-Would it matter if I wore the clothes before I colour-set them? Does that affect it at all?

If it helps, I'm talking about a intense/bright blue pair of pants.

  • A question for Adobe Premiere users?

So I have Adobe Premiere Elements for Mac, and I have a lot of stuff on my computer, so it goes slowly, etc etc. I haven't used it that often, and I'm about to start a new project, and you can change your project settings right? I'm wondering what is the setting that I want for it to run the fastest (so whatever setting would take the least power?). The video clips came from a Canon Powershot digital camera, and their in the .avi extension format. ... Any help would be fantastic !

  • Suggestions of 17th or 18th Century male names?

For the book I'm writing. Trying to write. :P

I need 17th or 18th C names for a male. Preferably late 17th or early 18th. They don't have to be popular names. It just needs to be a good, strong name; one that sounds dangerous even. But not so dangerous that it's comical.

    Any suggestions?

And if you wanna throw in some female names, that'd be great too!
