My sister was home when there was an explosion inside the apartment building and it burned to the ground. She somehow got out, but suffers from second and third degree burns on 48% of her body. She lives in the east coast-- far away from the rest of us in the west and southwest. Most of my family flew overnight and will be with her for one or two weeks, but we're trying to figure out how to be there for my sister which would require flying back and forth every couple of weeks, as she will be in the hospital for 4 to 5 months (we thought about taking turns so that we are still able to keep our jobs and pay rent). None of us can afford to do this, but feel we have no choice and there is no way any of us would allow her to be by herself through this. If anyone can think of an organization that helps with family emergencies, or if you've gone through this and found a way to stay out of town, or any state programs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, New Mexico, or Texas that could help us, it would be appreciated. We are at a loss of what to do and are trying to concentrate on helping her recover. Thank you.

I'm in the process of moving and decided the best and most affordable thing to do was find a group of people to go apartment/house hunting with and get a place together. I received over 40 emails, and picked out 5 that stood out to me the most and invited them for a meet-up to see how they were in person and see if everyone would get along with each other. Unfortunately, there was one girl, B, who seemed off to me-- and as the meet-up progressed-- would say one outlandish thing after another, which would end in either uncomfortable silence or exchange of looks among the rest of us. After we all talked and made plans to send emails of any places we find and get our forms and paperwork together, one of the girls and myself were walking out and I asked her if she thought B was a little off, and she said yes, she was definitely weird. We both had the same concerns, and I my intuition tells me that B is trouble. I really don't know what to do, but I know that I don't want to live with B and have there be problems down the road. So how do I tell her that we didn't click and she has to find another potential living situation?

My boyfriend said something very weird to me the other day, and I don't know what to think of it. I'm kind of weird-ed out, but I'm not sure if I'm overreacting. We were laying in bed and I was really tired and told him I didn't want to have sex, so he starts to masturbate and tells me that he likes to think of the time he accidentally came in me because he thinks it was hot. Now, when that incident happened a couple of months ago, I was really freaked out and afraid of getting pregnant-- the whole thing made me very stressed out, and he knows it. He wasn't very supportive emotionally that day besides saying he was really sorry and offering to pay for the morning after pill, but I thought he was just as freaked out about it as me. Is it weird that he sees it as this awesome thing he can fantasize about? This is also combined with him twice this month trying to force me to have sex with him even though I say no and have to physically keep him off of me. The last time I told him I was very sore from having sex the night before and that it would hurt, and he said he didn't care and he just wanted to f*ck me. I know it sounds bad, but it's been like this recently (we've been together over a year), so I'm confused about what has changed.

I ran into a couple of caterpillars, but removed them as soon as I spotted them. But tonight I noticed tiny white specks on the plants. It isn't mold, and the specks can be removed like dandruff. They aren't clumped together either, just sprinkled over the plants and sticking to the leaves (some places more concentrated than others). They don't move (not as far as I can tell), but I'm worried it might be spider mites, but I didn't see anything under the leaves. I didn't notice them there when I put my plants outside for the afternoon to can get some sun and air, but it's really obvious that there is something wrong now. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my plants? I'm not sure how to fix it without knowing what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hardened blister under toenail, what do I do?

I got a blood blister under the toenail, but it never popped. I tried to keep pressure off my toe, and soaked it in warm salt water almost everyday for about 2 or 3 weeks. It finally started to feel better [a month and a half later] when a friend accidentally jumped and landed right on my toe. It stung for a an hour but seemed fine afterwords. But then I realized my nail was turning this dull yellow color with little white streaks and was raised in the middle. I thought it was a fungus, but realized the nail was separating from the nail bed. I left it alone and kept a bandage on it, and noticed a new nail growing underneath, but I was afraid if I didn't remove the old nail, the new nail couldn't grown in correctly, so today I cut most of the dead nail off. Only the sides of the nail are left, and there is what looks like a large hardened blister that almost takes up half the nail bed; it looks like it's blocking the new nail from growing. I'm not sure what to do, it's really really hard and I don't want it to stunt the new nail. I don't have insurance. Is there any way I can help the blister to soften or something?

The landlord told me if I moved in that I would be accepting the room in its current condition and would have to pay for it from my security deposit when I move out, or I would have to pay to have someone professional come and paint it. I told him I didn't want the room in it's current condition and I wanted the room painted before I move in. He said he would try to get a hold of the painter he uses and try to get it done as soon as he can, but that he didn't know when. That was September 29th. Everyone says I should get one weeks worth of rent back from him, since I haven't been able to move in. I am hoping to move in this weekend, but he hasn't gotten back to me on whether he has gotten the room painted or not. Please only answer if you are familiar with San Francisco, CA rental laws. Also, I paid the security deposit, and first months rent already.

When the landlord called me, he also mentioned that the deposit was going to be $1400, but because I don't make 3 times the rent, that I would need a cosigner. This morning he emails me the cosigner form, when I can schedule to sign the lease, and how to send my credit report, but now the deposit has gone up to $1850! He says it's two months deposit. I have good credit (over 710), I have a full-time job, and a cosigner, why would he raise it to something so ridiculous like that? The apartment is located in San Francisco, CA

Last week I had responded to a craigslist ad that seemed like a great fit, but that same week, my best friend told me that she was moving to my area next month, and if I wanted to get a place for her, me, and a friend she knows. The girls whose ad I replied to emailed me back on Wednesday and asked me to call them to set up a meeting, but I was busy looking for 3 bedroom apartments to call and look at, that I didn't call the girls. I find out just this morning that my best friend is backing out of moving here because of "stress". I'm freaking out! Do you think I can email those girls back? What do I say? They're ad is still up, so I'm thinking they didn't find anyone yet. I have one week to find a place to live and I am fully aware that it is my fault for picking a doubtful situation with a supposed good friend than a solid situation with people I don't know well. Any good advice would be appreciated.

I met this guy at a party almost a month ago and he seemed really interested in me. I impulsively had sex with him the day after when I went over to his place to see a movie and regretted it, but didn't tell him. We always cuddle before and after making out/fooling around, and also the one time we had sex. He invites me out and always pays. He has introduced me to his roommates and a couple of his friends, invites me to parties that he hosts for his friends, and asks a lot of questions about what I'm interested in and my opinions on things. Sometimes we would go out and he would drop me off at home right after with a hug and a few kisses goodnight. But he never likes me to touch him while we're out in public (not even to hold hands), when we go into stores he always walks off without me and doesn't talk to me until he's ready to leave. He also never calls me in between "dates", but when he does, he likes to make conversation. He never brings up sex. A lot of the time the "dates" feel awkward, and I'm not sure why it is for him. But for me, I've only been with one guy before him and I waited a few months before having sex with my first, so this is unusual and weird for me. The last time I saw him he took me to a concert. As soon as he drank a beer he started hugging and flirting with me which was unusual for him to do in public. It just baffled me. So, when the show was over I asked why he acted weird sometimes, he said that he didn't know how to act around me and didn't want to hurt me. So I asked how he could hurt me, and he answered by asking me if I wanted a boyfriend. I just shrugged my shoulders and he didn't say anything. So I asked "why? Are you not boyfriend material?" And after awhile he said, "no, I'm not boyfriend material." We fooled around that night and fell asleep cuddling. I made him breakfast the next morning, and he stayed and hung out with me for a couple of hours just talking. We then went to a record store and he walked off into the store without me (again!). When he was done shopping he found me and we paid for our stuff. He gave me a hug and kiss outside the store and asked me to call him later in the day. That was a little less than a week ago and I didn't call him because I'm confused. I feel like he's giving me mixed signals. What does he want?
