    As mentioned in the title, I would like to work as a CVS cashier for my first job, but I have never used a cash register before. Two requirements for the job are listed below:

    1. Operate a cash register including cash transactions, checks, charges.

    2. Follow company policies and procedures regarding cash register performance.

    Would a newly hired cashier be taught how to use a cash register, or is it mandatory to have some experience before applying to the position?

  • Is "nuance" synonomous with "inner workings"?

    The definition of nuance is the following: "A subtle difference in or shade of meaning, expression, or sound."

    However, I've never fully understood how exactly this word is meant to be used. I hear people use the term in ways such as: "I'll try to explain the nuances of it", and "I haven't figured out the nuances of it quite yet", but I don't see how those usages of the term relate to its definition. Am I correct in assuming that nuance is synonomous with "inner workings" or "fundamentals"?

    I have a slight bit of experience with proving by direct method, but I don't have the slightest clue how to prove by contrapositive or contradiction. Can anyone assist me with the two problems below?

    2. Prove by contradiction: There is no integer that is both even and odd.

    I am having trouble understanding how to "prove" the following statement: "Prove by Direct Method: If x is an even integer, then x^2 - 6x + 5 is odd". What I am aware of currently is that the definition of an odd number is "n = 2k + 1", where n is the number you are trying to prove is negative and k is any integer. However, if you place 2, or 4 into the formula as x, the result is an odd, negative number, which cannot be proven odd using the definition of a negative number since there is no integer than when multiplied by 2 results in a negative number. If you place a large, even x value into the equation, then the result is a positive, odd number which can be proven odd using the definition of an odd number, but if the result of the formula is negative and odd, how do you prove that?

  • Can these discrete math problems be solved using truth tables?

    I am not asking anybody to solve the problems for me, but I would like to know if these problems are intended to be solved using truth tables. If they are, how can I identify what p, q, r, etc are? Any other tips you can provide that will help me solve these problems would be appreciated.

    Problem 1: Are these system specifications consistent? “The system is in multiuser state if and only if it is operating normally. If the system is operating normally, the kernel is functioning.     Problem 2: Steve would like to determine the relative salaries of three coworkers using two facts. First, he knows that if Fred is not the highest paid of the three, then Janice is.
