  • Riddle! it's not actually all that hard...?

I'll tell you 4 letters that stand for something. You have to guess what it stands for. There is no specific category of words to guess at, so you're pretty much flying blind. I'm not totally evil, so I will give 1 hint.

    The letters are: DNAF

Hint: It's definitely not a fish.

    *begin jeapoardy music*

    Did you get it yet?

Meh, this actually sin't very hard I thought of it all by myself a while back. I find that about half of all people get it right.

    Have fun!

  • Is it possible that my MSN messages aren't going thru even tho I recieve no error message?

I have a feeling people just ignore me since some people do respond to me. Is there any reason someone wouldn't recieve my IMs even when it doesn't say anything about failure to deliver?

  • A question about Pursuit Of Happyness...?

I know what it's about based on the ads for it, but I need some more specific info form aomseone who saw it.

Would you say that optimism and the power of positive thinking help Will Smith's character to perservere, and succeed?

I think I want to cite this movie as evidence in my schoo, presetation about the benefits of optimism, but I never actually saw it! lol.

    Thanks alot!

oh, 1 other thing. If anyone can think of another movie, or web clip, or TV show, or anything video-related about optimism or positive thinking, it would be really great to get those ideas!

    Thank you, goodnight :)

  • I think my ISP "blacklisted" me...?

For almost a month now, my internet connection will completely crash and my modem will reset at seemingly random intervals. Sometimes it's every 5 minutes, sometimes 20, sometimes 5 hours. The point is it's consistent.

I never changed anything on my end, and I've tried a few things to fix it, but I've arrived at the conclusion that my ISP blacklisted me (put me on a crappy connection) for doing too much downloading if illegal software, etc. on the internet, or something like that.

How can I find out if I actually am blacklisted?

If I am, how can I make them take me off, and give me my proper connection back?

  • Can anyone give me some info about being a movie critic?

Would writing about movies for magazines, newspapres, etc. be a viable career choice?

I mean, do they make a decent amount of money? I'm at the age now where the future is something I need to think about. I've always had a bit of a way with words, so careers that require writing skills are an option for me.

Pretty much any information about this type of job would be appreciated, preferably from someone with first-hand experience.

    Thanks

  • What are these white marks on my teeth?

I noticed that the bottoms of both my front teeth have white marks that stand out from the regular colour. Many of my other teeth have marks too, but just small ones that don't show up much. These front teeth have it bad, though.

I just noticed these big marks today, but I'm not sure if they are new, or have been there a long time and I just never saw (poor lighting in my bathroom).

I'm 16, so will these go away with time, or will I have to bleach my teeth to match the marks?

  • eBay--> Can the seller put any random Shiping Cost?

Or, does it actually have to be the exact cost to ship the item?

Ive been browsing, and I notice that some items have a low price, but a much larger shipping cost.

Is this just an attempt to attract more buyers with the low price and still make a tidy profit?

  • What do you think about this?

This is my real-life psychic experience. I had a dream that came true. It wasn't anything meaningful. I didn't forsee a murder or anything Hollywood-ish, it was actually extremely unspectacular.

This was quite some months ago. I dreamt that I was in what appeared to be an outdoors area, though I didn't get a look at all the surroundings. I saw grass though. I was standing at a big desk, the kind you might find in a school, and there was paper and stuff all over it. There were about 4 people standing along the other sides of the table, but I couldn't see any faces. Then, I suddenly had a scrap of paper in my hand, and I looked around for the garbage bag that was supposed to be haning off the adjacent side of the table. I peeked around, and had to ask a rather heavy girl to excuse me while I reached for the bag.

    That was it. Exciting, huh?

Well, it came true. Last summer I volunteered at a reading buddy program, and towards the end of the season our group was invited to set up...

  • If a 17 year old guy...?

...has an intimate relationship with a 16 year old girl, and then the guy turns 18 while his girlfriend is still a legal minor, can he be charged with rape or is there some exemption since their relationship predates the guy's adulthood?

This is just hypothetical, it doesn't apply to me at all. It's just of those random thoughts we all get from time to time.

  • What does "Moby Dick" say about America at the time it was written?

Just in case it censors the title, the name of the book is "Moby D!ck".

I think the title line is fairly stright-forward. I'll be honest, I didn't read the whole book (partly because I procrastinate alot, partly because I genuinely dislike the book), but form what I read it seems to tell alot about the culture of New England and Nantucket, the whaling industry.

In the beginning, when he meets Queequeg, Ishmael talks about how it was common for cannabals, or other people from islands to be casually walking the streets. Assuming these people are black, does this mean that New England has no racial tensions? Slavery was going on in the south around that time (or maybe it had just recently ended...hm...?).

As for the whaling industry, here's the part where my inerest severely waned. I gather that it's not necessarily a happy, fun job, and certianly not easy. The sailors who do it, do it because they love it. I gathered that much, but I can't quite get a grasp on what that says about...

  • How do I choose the best items to sell on e-Bay?

It's common knowledge that many people buy things at garage sales/thrift stores and then sell them for profite on e-Bay. I've been thinking about getting in on this too. The problem is that I don't really know what to look for. I have tried to sell a few items in the past, but nobody bought them.

So, when I'm sitting in Goodwill with a pocket full of money (that will hopefully turn into 2 pockets full of money later on!), what sorts of items should I be looking to spend it on? What makes an item desirable or undesirable?

    Thanks,

  • Rate the joke I just made up! (viewer discretion advised)?

Warning, the content of this joke is dirty. If you are easily offended, go away.

Hookers in [insert location] are like a box of chocolates- some have cherries, and some have nuts!

So, there it is. I just thought of that like 2 minutes ago. What do you think? (Or, if you've heard it somewhere before, send me a link to it on the web!)

  • Why do I feel this way (NOT a teen romance story!)?

By most accounts, I have had an easy life. I'm 16, and the only bad thing in my life is some mommy issues, but even that isn't exactly "crippling". I have never even broken a bone.

Sometimes when I talk to people, they start telling me their sad stories about life. Really crappy stuff that I have no experience with. I can't really relate to anyone's story, and I just feel like it prevents me from being comforting to the sad person. It bugs the hell outa me!

Afer situation like that, I sometimes wish I had some kind of tragic flaw in my life, just so I could relate to people better. It seems irrational, but I almost feel kinda 'empty', like sorrow is a facet of life I have not yet truly experienced.

Is it completely irrational and wrong for me to wish for my life to have an element of great sadness? It seems that way to me, and yet I can't help the way I feel.

  • How did WW2 Flak work?

I don't mean the Flakvierling, or the Flak88 uber cannon, but the kind that fires shells that explode in little black poofs. They can be seen in many ww2 games, TV programs and movies.

I just wondred how they work? Do they actually explode when they come near a plane? Or is it more like a fuse is lit within the shell when it fires, and its up to luck if it blows near the planes or not?

    Thanks,

  • A redneck joke...I like it, do you?

2 rednecks, Clem and Billy-Jim, are out walking their dog at night. Then, the dog runs off randomly. The 2 rednecks pull out their flashlights and begin looking for the dog.

Soon, they find the dog, but discover that he had made his way to the other side of a river. The rednecks didn't want to get wet, but they needed to get to their dog. They sat and pondered a moment, then Clem said,

"Billy-Jim, I dun gots me an idear! Ima shine my flashlight across the river, and then you can walk over on the beam of light!"

Billy-Jim replied, "Clem, do yall really think I'm that stupid? You're just gonna turn off the flashlight when I'm halfway across!"

So, what does the viewing public think?

  • I need an idea for...?

a very simple C++ program I can make for my highschool class.

When I say simple, I mean simple. Requirements include strings, char variables, a 'for' loop, nested loops and a calculation of some sort.

I have the code to generate a random number as well.

I have hit a creative block today, and ideally I need an idea for tomorrow. So, if anyone can give me something easy and simple to meet those requirements, I'm all ears!

    Thanks,

  • Is this realistic?

My Uncle, in his endles efforts to motivate me into entrepreneurial adventures (by the way, I'm 16), always suggests various ideas for small businesses that I could do. Some of them aren't bad, but alot seem a bit farfetched.

A few days ago, he came up with puting vending machines in apartment buildings, and letting them make money for you.

Here's the part where I ask that anyone with busines knowedge correct me at every wrong.

The way I understand that, is that I would get in contact with Coke, or some other company that leases/sells vending machines. I obtain one, and then speak with apartment building landlords to see who will allow me to install the machine in their building. Supposing I find someone who agrees, I would likely have to pay the landlord some fee for using his space. After that, the cash would roll in, I would pay to restock the machine, rinse and repeat.

So first of all, is my understanding of how that would work correct? Second how much do vending machines cost?
