  • What to wear to to a casual job interview at Calvin Klein?

I have an interview tomorrow as a Christmas casual at Calvin Klein Jeans. I was wondering what dress code I should wear. I don't think a full on suit is appropriate. I am contemplating on wearing some classy smart/casual clothes from CK. Wearing dark, plain colours with a dress shirt and tie underneath a CK LAMBSWOOL jumper?

  • What's the best way to learn more vocabulary in another language (Japanese)?

I could potentially be fluent at Japanese. I understand the sentence structure, grammar, syntax and conjugations perfectly (etc etc). However, my biggest problem is learning thousands of words which I can use to 'fill up' or enrich sentences. This would greatly increase my range of communication topics.

So what is the best way to do this? I really want a better method than repetition or boring route learning (if one exists). Thanks a lot! :)

***And yes, I can read and write japanese kana perfectly, kanji is difficult, however.

  • What can I do with a bachelor of science?

I am doing my first year bachelor's degree in science at Monash University. I plan to major in biology and/or chemistry and/or psychology.

I do NOT want to become a teacher. Let's make that clear :)

I don't mind if I have to do an honours or masters degree after either. I am mainly interested in biological systems, namely animals (including humans). Even if my first job was simply an assistant I would be very happy.

My dream goal is to be able to study (or assist studying) the brain/nervous system. Perhaps my bachelor degree could help me with this (?)

I will be contacting my University soon for more help.

    Thanks! :)

  • Bachelor of science pathway into neuroscience?

I have gotten into a Bachelor of Science at University and in the future I hope to get a career anywhere in the field of Neuroscience. My course does not explicitly teach neuroscience, but rather the fundamentals of it (Chemistry, Biology etc) and it also has a few Neuroscience units which cover the brain and Nervous system.

After a 3 year course, I am eligible to apply as a mature age student, and can apply for any course despite my year 12 score which wouldn't have let me get into certain courses.

So does it seem a good plan? I just love the brain, but before I go right into a neuroscience course, I want to have an understanding of science.

  • I have "unlimited" SMS texts on my iPhone 4, yet was charged $43.80 for texts?

For $59 a month I get the following:

$550 worth of calls and MMS

    SMS - Unlimited

    1.5GB of data

I am confused why my bill is $72.323, in which $43.80 are from SMS, when I supposedly had "unlimited" SMS text messages.

My calls come to $10.55 (Which I guess caps at $550)

    My MMS came to $1

I really don't understand if I am getting ripped off or if I don't properly understand how this works.

  • Could stem cells be used to treat people disfigured from skin trauma?

By this I mean, if a person was severely burned and had scarred, could stem cell research enable not only a rapid increase in healing, but also to replace scar tissue?

    Thank you. :)

  • I'm scared to tell my psychiatrist that i'm gay?

I'm gay, and very ashamed of it. It would have to be the one thing about myself that I hate the most, and if I could, I would change myself so I could fit into society.

I have been seeing my psychiatrist for more than a year now because of my anxiety and depression. One of the main causes behind my depression, I believe, is my sexuality.

I don't see myself as a normal person, and I do and say many harsh thing that may offend people in order to "trick" my brain into thinking that it is straight, therefore, "curing" my homosexuality.

This may sound VERY strange, but I often go through denial stages, where, something I do that I am proud of, such as getting the highest mark on a test in our class is utter proof that I cannot be gay. -because gay's aren't actual people and they are not capable of anything-

But then I met a guy that I really like. He is a... little older than I am (8 years older, I'm 18 :S) and we have been going out for two months. I was then shocked to find out just how smart he was- DUX of his school in 2003 with the highest ENTER score of 98.35. He did Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Accounting, French and Psychology. He got 100% on all of his SACs (school assessed course-works) and ERAs. And it made me feel horrible.

    Please don't attack me.

So after that introduction, now that leads me to the actual question:

Should I be afraid to tell me psychiatrist that I am gay? Also, what can I do to larn to accept myself?

    Thank you.

I am really sorry if I offended anyone.

  • How do you ascertain if someone is intelligent?

This question has been bugging me for a... LONG time. I believe intelligence is a quality, therefore it cannot not be measured in an objective manner. Hence why I (personally) do not believe IQ tests are a definitive measure of intelligence.

I also believe our intelligence is like our fingerprints (bear with me :P), each one is unique. Yet, unlike our fingerprints it is constantly changing because of our brain's rewiring of itself through synaptogenesis and pruning.

I believe we are all intelligent, and we are extremely subtle in how we are intelligent.

What frustrated me even more is that people may assume I am intelligent because of my simple description above; the words I use, my knowledge of the brain etc. But I view that as knowledge, not intelligence (whatever that is)

So please, any help would be greatly appreciated. How do we determine someone as "smart"?

  • What does it mean if someone calls you "Obnoxiously attractive"?

Someone who likes me called me obnoxiously attractive. Though I know what obnoxious means, I have no idea what the whole things means when obnoxious and attractive are put together. So please, explain. Is this good or bad?

  • Is it true that the human brain's total raw number of synaptic impulses is 10 quadrillion per second?

This assumption is based on the total number of neurons in the cortex, multiplied by the number on connections per neuron, multiplied by the number of impusles per synapse. This figure is rather wide spread, of 10,000,000,000,000,000 (!!!) of the brain's "raw" processing power. I was wondering also how this compares to a computer (PC or supercomputer) as computers can do several things faster than us, yet, so can we.

  • Why are humans so much better than computers at image/object recognition?

Simple question, and I love technological advances. But I tried around with some online recognition software to analyze and show similar images based on the one you show it. eg; You show it one of your friends fishing, and it recognises that, and finds other similar images. And I have to say. it was horrible at doing this.

What is the key difference between the brain and the computer when it comes to such a seemingly simple, yet surprisingly ambiguous task?

  • Is it true that certain types of music, sounds, beats and flashing lights can induce a specific brain wave?

I have seen from numerous sites on the internet and on news reports that very specific tones, beats and lights (flashing impulses) can force your brain to resonate with the beat.

I have researched both binaural beats and isochronic tones, and from what I can see, the science is arguable real. What evidence is there to suggest that some types of music can relax the brain, or excite it?

    Thank you.

  • How/where can I get a very long router cord to connect the internet to my Wii, which is in another room?

I have wired internet, that connects to my computer. And a few rooms down, I have the Wii (connected to my TV). The cord connecting the router to my computer is only a few feet long, not long enough to connect to the internet, so I can purchase old classic N64 games for the Wii.

Is it possible to get a REALLY long cord which will attach to the LAN adapter and then into the Wii?

Haha, I mean like 10 METERS away!

Thanks a lot. I'm pretty desperate to get those games.

  • Any tips on growing kale, spinanch, collards and other greens in Australia?

I live in Victoria, Australia, and was wondering if you had any tips on growing some nutritious greens for me.

I'd like to know if these greens are best grown in Winter, or any other season. How to grow them etc.

I find that direct help from people is a little more thorough than googleing information on this stuff.

    Thank you!

  • How much better is a Vitamix blender than a regular blender?

I found out about extremely healthy eating and how I can try to incorporate more raw fruits, vegetables, green leafy vegetables, sea vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouts etc... into my diet. No, I am not a vegetarian, but I want to add more healthy foods. I found out about green smoothies from a girl on youtube who uses a Vitamix to make all of her foods. After that I tried it with my mum's Kenwood blender. It was a HUGE struggle to get it going and it is never smooth.

I watch in pure amazement at the Vitamix's ability to blend broom sticks:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7fAjhdoLWg

    Youtube thumbnail

Cook soup with the friction of the blades, make peanut butter, crush ice and so much more.

The only problem is that they are expensive, the ones that we use at boost juice are near the $1000 mark. The model I want is not that expensive. Other people think that it is stupid for a 16 year old to want something like this; it is the same blender used in professional chef's restaurants.

What experience do you have with them?

  • My nail cracked and peeled at the base (cuticle). What caused this and can I change this?

Only a few days ago did I notice a thin crack at the base on one of my nails, and after scratching it a peeled away a few layers of the nail. I do not remember banging my nail and I don't think It is a deficiency because I try to add a heap of fresh fruits and vegetables into my diet. All of my other nails are fine. What could this be?
