  • opportunity cost question?

Use this set up for the next two problems.

Gareth and Julie could both be responsible for doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen. Julie can wash 10 dishes OR 2 loads of laundry per hour. Gareth can wash 30 dishes OR 3 loads of laundry per hour.

a.)What are their opportunity cost of laundry and who has comparative advantage in doing laundry?

Gareth gives up cleaning 1/10 dishes and Julie gives up 1/5 for 1 load of laundry, so Julie has a lower opportunity cost of laundry and has the comparative advantage at laundry.

Gareth gives up cleaning 10 dishes and Julie gives up 5 for 1 load of laundry, so Gareth has a lower opportunity cost of laundry and has the comparative advantage at laundry.
