Im finding it very hard to get a job at the moment. I have applied online and have gone into stores with my resume and cover letter and nothing back. I have had one interview in the last 8 months of applying. I dont have any experience in retail or customer service which I think is why I havent heard anything back but I have worked in some intense fast paced jobs Any tips of what I can do? Dont say volunteering because I have tried that and all the places said they only take disabled people or school kids for work experience. And if your wondering why I wanna work in retail, I have moved areas and I live really close to a shopping centre which would be ideal.

It’s really not that bad however, i am getting super motivated and have started improving certain weak spots. I think a job would help me get better at time management in the long run and I want some cash for various reasons. I want to work maybe at the chain pet store, or make pizzas for a chain, or work at Chipotle or something similar. I feel like a lot of places are said to be willing to hash out just a few hours a week with kids. is this true? Does it depend on the times (totally willing to do Fri-Sat nights and such)? Is that range of numbers in my question header ridiculous?

I replied to it and the guy sent me an email saying "Can you text me so we can set up a date and time for an interview as well as discuss pay?" So I sent him a text but never heard back from him. I can understand why because I sent it at 11:52 California time. Btw, he emailed me back around 11:46. About 15 mins after I replied to the add. He sent a link to his Instagram which in my opinion is a joke and sent off red flags. His Instagram is Cayman Island Jobs. He's a young curly haired mixed looking guy. He has about 200+ followers. After looking at his page, I feel duped. Do you all think it's a real job or reality show? https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/tl...

Jobs from home involve things like running an online business from home, selling on sites like Amazon and Ebay, or dog walking or child watching (complicated).
Lots of people get to work by walking or taking the bus, so are you quite sure you've investigated the possibility of doing that as an alternative. You can't be proud as to what you think you are prepared to do. Find a job on a bus route and apply for it and then when you get it, just do it.
Because the truth is that being in work is the doorway to more work. An employment record and a person with drive and determination to be earning. Putting obstacles in your own way shows that you don't have those, so try to step it up a bit.

I’m in the process of getting a new job at a former company I worked for. The hiring managers are my former manager and Director and I have a good relationship with the Director. In my application I asked for my desired salary, which was a little more than what the Director suggested I request. I received a phone call today from the manager confirming the job description and she mentioned the salary amount seemed appropriate after the manager discussed it with the director, so I am sure they are going to offer that amount. However, where I am employed now, I get an annual bonus as well as 4 weeks vacation. Where I’m applying, I would get no annual bonus and only two weeks vacation. I asked for about $5k more than I make now, and I’ll be in the same job field, with a higher title. If they offer me the job, would it be appropriate to negotiate an added week of vacation or more pay if they can’t give more vacation, even after they agreed to my original request? All opinions are welcome!

  • Would it be weird to ask a poetry professor (or a classmate) to be a reference for a job application to a grocery store?

Best answer: It's highly unlikely that a grocery store will actually contact all three references, if they even bother contacting any of them.

You can certainly use your professor as a reference. Just be sure to ask him if it's OK first.

I live in the greater LA area. I have a degree from USC, which should qualify me as a strong candidate for jobs. I was a film major and graduated May 2017. The thing is, I have Aspergers syndrome/ mild autism and my anxiety has gotten almost unbearable. Since graduating over a year ago, I have applied for countless jobs in the industry but have found no luck. Since then I have been working as a cashier at a major retailer, but I hate dealing with customers and it's making my anxiety worse. I need to get out, but even if I could get a job at a film company, I'm sure they would have high expectations of me and it would feel a ton of anxiety there. What are some potential jobs that wouod maybe be good for me? I don't care if it's in my field at all, or if it pays well. Just something that won't be stressful. Even though my degree is in film, I figure a degree from a top unjverrsity still means something. Any ideas? Note: I have tried freelance video editing but I haven't been able to make any money really, and I hate driving so I don't want to do Uber or Lyft.

Best answer: Only theaten to leave if you have another job lined up or if you have enough money saved to last you a few months.
We live in a capitalist system. It’s up to all of us to look out for our own best interests and get the best value for our time and money. Won’t your customers shop elsewhere if they don’t get a good price from your store? Wouldn’t your store switch vendors if they got a better deal on the supply side? Why do you have to play the loser? Rise. Claim what you are owed or go. And if you don’t have enough skills to get a better job - invest in your self and get them. Maybe it might mean biding your time for a while before you get certified in what ever - but you do it and then you give your notice with 2 weeks and don’t look back. An employer is supposed to work to retain good employees. If they don’t - they are failing to adapt in our capitalist system. Sears is about to close. They didn’t adapt. Don’t be like sears.
