  • Can teachers get fired for cursing at a student??

I really despise my teacher & so do many other students. She nitpicks me at everything and we get into many arguments. She called me a "smart ***" is that a big enough offense to get her at least suspended??? Thanks.

  • My teacher found out about my disordered eating, will she tell my parents?

she took me out of class the other day and told me that she understands how i feel because she dealt with eating disorders in the past herself. She told me to come to her during lunch time today, that's in 10 minutes!! Do you think she's gonna tell my parents?

Hi, I'm a sophomore in high school and had an amazing 8th grade social studies teacher who I really looked up to and is a huge inspiration of mine. During my freshman year, I occasionally visited her and she was always really happy to see me and enjoyed getting my emails. I did have a good rapport with her and I was thinking about sending her a friend request on Facebook. I know social media of any kind is personal and I of course want to be respectful of her personal life. I don't know if I should wait until after I graduate high school to send a friend request since I will be older, not send one at all, or if it would be okay to send one now since I am no longer in her class and I don't go to the same school? I acknowledge that her privacy is important and just want your thoughts on what I should do. (We are also both female btw) Thanks!

  • Should I? Is it wrong? Can I can my teacher I like him by emailing him a science meme which low-key tells him I really like him?

Okay, so I m in year 11 in my second week of GCSES. And one of my teachers, he s hot. Not just by looks, his personality, his laugh, his smile. He s just adorable. And I m not sure if he knows I like him? (My friend told him I loved him DURING LESSON lmao, I wasn t in the room I was looking in the window. And I ve waved at him, stared at him, smiled etc.) I don t know if I m going to go to college, or stay at the sixth form at my school. But either way, would it make things awkward (if I stayed at the sixth form) and before I leave for summer, send him a science meme through email saying do you have 11 protons? Because you re sodium fine to hint that I like him? I don t know, I thought he might appreciate it? Hah. And obviously thank him for teaching me because he really is an amazing teacher. I just worry a lot, no one can give me a proper answer so I thought I d turn to you lot of lovely people. Would it make things awkward after I come back to sixth form after summer? Would he feel awkward teaching me if he ends up being my teacher if I decide to take science for A level? I obviously don t want him to lose his job, or put him in an uncomfortable position. I know nothing can come from this, did I mention he has a girlfriend? Oops! I just feel like I need to tell him. And anyway, there s nothing wrong with a confidence booster ;) Also if you are a teacher, how would you feel? Or if you re a student, have you told your teacher she/he is hot? How did they react? ty!

So pretty much I'm in year 9 in school (I'm 14), and today for last lesson we had music. It was our last music lesson as after the half term we will be starting coursework. It was kind of a fun lesson. The teacher put music on, we were all aloud to mess around and listen to music. In the last 15 minutes of the lesson, we were listening to our classmates sing. This girl started singing, and to be honest I thought she was pretty good, but then some of my classmates started laughing. More and more people were laughing, and because I saw them laughing, it made me laugh. I put my head down to try and stop myself from laughing. After her performance, the teacher told me to leave the class. I said I wasn't laughing at her but she still told me to leave. After the lesson, the teacher sent me to the head of year. She wasn't there so she said to me "do me a favour, and leave this school." I was quite shocked by what she said. She then started bringing up things I've done in the past and said "you should've been kicked out already". She then said she's reporting me, and then walked off. Everyone I've asked have said she can't say that, even my parents. I've even got witnesses. If the head of year approaches me tommorow, what can I say to defend myself? I can't stop myself from laughing? What is your opinion on this?

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Best answer: It's not the teachers. It's the result of the requirements under the No Child Left Behind Act put in place by G.W. Bush. They wanted a way to compare schools, which meant standardized testing. Multiple choice tests can only test knowledge of discrete facts, so teachers had to emphasize memorization of facts in order for students to do well on those tests. But that has changed with the adoption of the Common Core Standards, which emphasize comprehension, analysis, and application. The new tests are constructed-response- not multiple choice. So the teaching will be changing to fit the new tests. Unless Trump manages to destroy all the progress.

BTW, what you describe about the teaching of Chinese IS just rote memorization. And that is true of much of education in China. That educational system has been widely criticized for not teaching critical thinking and analysis. And yes, I've been in Chinese classrooms.
