• If the British government didn't want to allow Brexit to happen, why'd they put it on the ballot?

Best answer: They tried very hard to ignore the people who did not want to be in the EU. Their problem was that the issue was divisive within the Conservative party that was in power. Consequently, they wanted to ignore the problem and not bring matters to a head because that could split the party.

However, the pressure to do something kept increasing and eventually David Cameron, UK Prime Minister, decided to hold a referendum and he fully expected the people to vote Remain.

Sadly, for him, we voted Leave. He resigned immediately as he would pee off his conservative backers if he followed up by activating Article 50 and negotiating the Brexit.

So we got Theresa May as Prime Minister instead. She can talk big but is not so good on delivering. She is also a closet Remainer - hence the current situation.

In short, Cameron wanted to close down all discussion on the subject but misjudged the will of the people.

Leaving without a deal is still a good option. leaving is the only part we will not be allowed to re-try for a few decades. We can try to negotiate deals with the EU from the first day after leaving. They can accept or not but the Germans will have runways full of Mercedes and BMW cars if they are not reasonable. Belgium will have boxes of chocolate melting in the sun and France will be looking for somewhere else to sell a few million gallons of wine.

I was an Liberal for most of my life. I suffered from depression for many reasons. When I started my programming career at 28, I met a coworker who was a devout Conservative. I had the same "Conservatives are obnoxious and preachy and wrong" view that much of the Internet has, but he seemed pretty intelligent and thoughtful, so I started talking to him about it. He told me if I wanted to learn more, to watch PragerU with an open mind. I did, there were some positive feelings, even if it seemed otherwise unbelievable/falsified. He asked if I wanted to come to his Conservative group with him, saying that I should give it three chances. I reluctantly agreed, went a few times, thought it seemed interested but weird. During this time, I voted Conservative for things. They produced results - results that could be explained away, but very specific nonetheless. I felt pretty positive about the whole experience. After the third time, he said that I knew enough, asked me if I wanted to accept Conservatism. I was going to say no and then felt this overwhelming feeling, powerful, external, commanding. I later found out that this was known as conviction, which is often used by Donald Trump. I felt the melancholy start forcing itself on me, it vanished, replaced by a strong feeling of warmth and love. It was amazing.
