Engine tapping?

i changed the egr valve and the dpfe valve. Complete tuneup and the car still makes a tapping noise. The cylinder heads were fixed and the tapping is still there. I got an oil change ect. What else could it be. 1998 lincoln navigator 4x4

It's the lifters, no big deal, the car will run fine. Sometimes it will be louder than others. You can try moving to a thicker oil and that might help if you are intent on getting rid of the noise.

i own a repair shop, and about all that's left is a bad lifter in it,,its not unusual for one to go bad in that new of a vehicle,,they did have an issue with some if the engines making noise in a few of them,,but that's about as far as it ever got,,they never re-called anything on them,,you may wind up,having to put a new set in it to get rid of the tapping noise,,unless it coming from the exhaust,or another source,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

Possibly a cracked exhaust manifold or deeper in the valve train.

  • it is probable 1 of 2 things

one of your lifters is sticky or it is a exhaust leak some were but I am leaning to say it is the lifers.

its probably the valve lifters tapping.you probably got hydrolic lifters,if so then they have positive stop.i had fords and all you do is put the rockers on the low cam and torque the nuts.maybe you need new lifters,if that doesnt stop them from ticking.
