Fishing.... and such?

Where are some of the important fishing areas in the oceans? What causes these areas to generate such large numbers of fish? Where might there be convection currents?

Thx Lollie

The most important areas in the ocean for fishing are along the coastlines. In general, this where the majority of the fish that are caught are found. Globally, high fish areas are considered to be the Grand Banks, the Bering Sea, the Antarctic Ocean, the North Sea, the Gulf of Alaska, and parts of the Indian Ocean. The cause of these areas being populated by such high numbers of fish are due to a number of things, such as the currents and influx of nutrients from the land by way of rivers and estuaries. These currents and influxes bring in great numbers of nutrients, which begin the source of the food web, so animals begin to feed, which brings in more fish, and more fish, and so on. Another cause is an upwelling. This brings in nutrients by way of the sea floor. Nutrient rich waters from the bottom come up to the top, causing a pushing off and sinking of the warmer surface layers of water. This causes the same situation, where the nutrient rich waters create a feeding bonanza, which brings about more fish into a given area.

Convection currents are found almost everywhere. They are found from the bottom of the ocean all the way to top. An example is where thermal vents on the ocean floor allow water to seep out, and the heat is transferred (distributed) to the water that surrounds it.
