I have studied an environmental engineering module at University and basically being an environmental engineer involves asessing and managing the effects of humans and other activities on the man made and natural environment.

A lot of work includes waste management for local authorities, reclamation of land, the implications of it any impacts it could cause and any safety issues involved, and also pollution control and alternative fuel sources and power generation.

A "civil environmental engineer" builds **** plants but they will never admit it. They give you some mumbo jumbo about sanitary engineering, but they stole the name from legit environmental engineers who work on solutions that consider the entire ecosystem in their designs because it sounds good. Caveat emptor!
