My Sony rear projection 50" TV has a blue swirl? And it keeps getting bigger. Can I fix this and how much?
Its getting bigger and it looks like its pulsating. its spreading throughout the screen and it leaves a frozen pic like a TV icon when left on a channel for a while

A blue swirl is usually a bad convergence amplifier TWISTING the blue picture.....
You need a TV Tech to come out and replace BOTH since the other one usually dies in 3 months....
So, pay for both amps to be replaced, about $40 more for the 2nd amp.
Total Cost will normally be around $380 for an IN-Home TV repair job ....Source(s): Over 25 years servicing TV sets.....

The older Sony rear screen projectors have problems with the fluid crystal icing inside the heat exchanger between the CRT and all projection lens. Can replace the CRT and lens assembling, or you can use a hypodermic needle to drain off the fluid and put new fluid in there. Have fun

You can buy a decent hammer for under a fiver, and fill in an insurance claim.
