Gurnee Mills (Gurnee, IL) is actually the largest mall in Illinois and its about an hour North of Chicago. I enjoy Orland Square which is in the south suburbs. As for malls with in the city limits I enjoy the water tower place downtown on the magnificent mile.

Hmmm, a good question. Within the city limits and outside of Michigan Avenue and State Street, there are a couple malls, such as Harlem-Irving Plaza, Ford City and Evergreen Park Mall. Within the closer suburbs, you can try Old Orchard in Skokie, Northbrook Court in Northbrook, Golf Mill in Niles, Oakbrook Mall, Yorktown Mall to the west, and Chicago Ridge Mall to the south.
