The store was started in 1892 by Mr. David Abercrombie and was named: Abercrombie & Co. As an outdoors man, he opened his store and sold much hunting apperal, as well as guns, tents, fishing poles, etc. Ezra Fitch was one of the regular customers at Mr. Abercrombies store. He was a lawyer, but was bored with his life. In 1900, he bought into the business. In 1904, the name was changed from Abercrombie & Co to Abercrombie & Fitch.
In 1909, Abercrombie & Fitch published 50,000 456 page catalogs to send around the world. In 1910, the store began to sell womens appereal.
Moving on to 1978, the store is bought by Oshmans Sporting Goods. In 1988, Abercrombie & Fitch is sold to The Limited. 10 years later, in 1998, Abercrombie & Fitch breaks free from other companies and goes solo.
