A 150 gram bullet is fired from a 3.0 k.g gun...?

A 150 gram bullet is fired form a 3.0 k.g gun. If the bullet is traveling with a velocity of 460 m/s, how fast does the gun recoil towards the hunter?

    Conservation of momentum:

    Initial momentum = 0

    = final momentum = mgun vgun - mbullet vbullet

    Solve for the recoil speed of the gun:

    vgun = vbullet mbullet / mgun

    They give you the bullet's speed and the masses. Plugnchug.

    Vr = Vb*(Mb/Mg) = 460*.15/3 = 23 m/s
