Why is every "haunting" attributed to ghosts?

Why do people automatically believe that "supernatural" events (ie. a floating ball of light, or a knife spinning by itself on a kitchen table) are the work of ghosts? It's blind, arrogant anthropocentrism: putting humans at the center of everything. "This supernatural event, which is totally outside of our range of understanding, must be the work of the spirit of a dead human." ...Um, ok...

Assume much? Who said all ghosts are the spirits of dead humans? Do you understand what "Haunting" is? It is a ghost infestation, you ignoramus! You mentioned "haunting", then listed "supernatural" events (ie. a floating ball of light, or a knife spinning by itself on a kitchen table). You really are confused.
