Only some members of a college football team are there on athletic scholarships - by NCAA regulations, each school can only award so many scholarships each year.

Believe it or not, at some schools, few if any football players are attending the school on athletic scholarships - you might find more students on the team are academic scholars.

Most schools offer an opportunity to "walk on", and there have been any number of heart-warming stories of walk-on players who went on to star for their college programs. Offhand, I know of at least three former college walk-ons from Illinois, Greg Lewis, Aaron Morehead, and Nathan Hadel, all who went on to play in the NFL.

Check with the athletic programs that you are interested in, and find out about their walk-on tryouts.

    Good luck to you!
