What are some good classical songs or pieces?
I realized I actually like classical music a lot, don't know why but it just takes me away and makes me think. What are some good artists (composers?) or people to get good, calm, classical music off of?

Try Einaudi Le Onde and Philip Glass Metmorphosen (Here is the first.. the rest are linked in..on the side www.youtube.com/watch?v=il4VDf-ugPI
Those are more modern
Orchestral... Try the first movement of Elgar's Cello Concerto. He wrote it when his wife was dying www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5C99JyP2ns
Opera.. Try Soave il vento from Cosi Fan Tutte by Mozart. Two sisters sing it when their betrothed are sent away to war (only they are lying as thy dress up as foreign people to test the sister's faithfulness www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h22GEyj16A
Bach Goldberg variations are good, plus preludes and fuges for technique aspects.
So many good pieces to listn to, it depends what mood you are in and what you have listend to before and what you like.. Need more to go on!Source(s): Experience

No matter how much I love classical music, the 2 songs I always go back to are: -
Yann Tiersen - Summer 79, and
Michael Nyman - The Heart Asks Pleasure First
Those songs are the reason I started listening to classical music in the first place.
I'd also recommend listening to all the music Clint Mansell worked on for Requiem for a Dream. It's haunting.

A lot of this is available at Youtube.com website too.
If you like piano music you could start here:
SCHUBERT: Symphonies, solo piano music
LISZT: "Les Preludes"
MENDELSSOHN: Song Without Words (there are eight volumes)
BRAHMS: A very nice CD is Van Cliburn's "My Favorite Brahms"
Listen to samples of music played by Joshua Bell, violin:
Hope this helps.
