I need some ideas for an outdoor winter new years party.?
We want to have an outdoor winter New Years party and I am looking for menu and entertainment ideas. We were thinking having things like pea soup and chili, hot chocolate for the kids but I would like some other ideas.
For entertainment we were thinking of having a huge campfire to warmth and hiring a horse and wagon ride. Any other ideas?
Am I off to a good start or should I go in a different direction?

Why not do a big seafood fest? Fishboils are popular and can feed a crowd easily.
If you're looking for something a little fancier (as New Years is sometimes a fancier occasion) go with more upscale seafood choices.
This fall I had an outdoor tailgating party (at my house) and used Red Lobster's recipes for grilling.
This was my menu...
Grilled Rack of Shrimp - http://www.redlobster.com/kitchen/recipes/default....
Grilled Rock Lobster - http://www.redlobster.com/kitchen/recipes/default....
Asian Grilled Salmon - http://www.redlobster.com/kitchen/recipes/default....
Different sauces - http://www.redlobster.com/kitchen/recipes/default....
I also prepared the Shrimp Gumbo - http://www.redlobster.com/kitchen/recipes/shrimp-g... and serve their Cranberry Apple Sangria whenever I have people over http://www.redlobster.com/kitchen/recipes/default....
I definitely like the bonfire and sleigh ride idea!
Good luck and have fun!

have a coffee/hot chocolate:white and milk-bar:different toppings whipped cream, shavings of different chocolates, flavoured powders:vanilla, cinnamon etc.have different edibles to stir:sticks of peppermint, sugar candy,toffee-like big hunk candy but in sticks and syrups.mini marshmallows.
have liqueurs for the grow ups:Kahlua, amaretto, frangelico, peppermint schnapps etc. to add fire to the hot drinks.
for food you can make a cold cuts and cheese mix and match on your choice of warm breads-could you get one of those appliances that just keep bread warm?or a thermos bag to keep bread warm.
also broil in oven sheets eggplant, bell peppers-differentcolors,zuchinni-cut length wise.just drizzle with olive oil,a tad freshly ground pepper.serve warm.have red lettuce and fresh leaves of spinach for crunch on bread.
for appetisers small chicken terriyaki skewers and mini meatballs in a sweet sour sauce.
have tons of fun!
