Should the United Nations cooperate with the U.S. military?

The U.S. military is predicting unprecedented hunger in the Afghan region this winter . . . this hunger poses a huge risk to both our troops safety and the long term stability of the region. The military has asked the United Nations to step up emergency relief supplies in response to this foreseeable problem. The United Nations has declined to do so because they fear that the perception of being aligned with any military organization (not just the U.S.) will negate the international understanding that aid workers are "neutral" and thus jeapardize their non combatant status in other regions of the world . . .

So, in more broad terms, should the United Nations align itself with military operations when the benefits are mutually beneficial? Or should they continue to maintain absolute neutrality?

You can see where people stand in the US vs UN war.

The UN should do what they do best, Humanitarian Aid and protecting their own. The UN security council is a joke, and is really only the US military along with a handful of other countries. So that's how the war in Afghanistan should break down.

As for the dues the US owes, the UN owes us for the military support we give them, so it balances and should be called even.

The UN *should* help feed hungry people yes.

Unfortunately they won't - the UN is a bunch of ineffective blow hards who have never done an ounce of good in this world.

You accidentally left out; "Should the US military leave Afghanistan, and allow the relief workers in to do their job?"

I'm sure that was an accidental oversight, on your part.

    Merry Christmas!

The US has refused to pay its UN dues for years (we agreed to pay dues when we first signed on). Why should the UN listen to the US if the US won't fulfill the financial obligation it agreed to take on?

might as well, because they always depend on our protection. They should stop relying on us. We are not the world's police.
