Politicians and Broken Promises, why?

Why is it that Politicians seem to contradict their stated values, it seems unlikely that this results merely from manipulating the public to receive their vote, but rather wider pressures that constrain or encourage their actions. Any ideas?

Americans seem to see the corruption in Washington & oppose the way we're corralled like cattle but nothing can or will be done about our legitimate oppositions, opinions, grievances, ideas or suggestions by debating them here on Y Q&A. Everyone with anything to say regarding our government should remember that the government is suppose to work for the people, not the other way around & it's our state representatives jobs to get our voices heard in higher offices so take time while you're online & make yourself heard where it might make a difference. Below is a legitimate link for finding & emailing your state reps. Tell 'em like it is!

People want contradicting things; or they want a solution that has no consequences, when all solutions have consequences.

We want a perfect answer, and we'll vote out anyone who doesn't give us a perfect solve-all answer; subsequently such promises are impossible to keep.

Simply stating "I'll do what I can, but things will probably happen pretty slowly, if at all" will not get you elected. We want a super hero in a world without superpowers.

*A lot of it can be seen in the primaries, anyone who's too honest (that's less pleasant then it sounds) or says anything other then exactly what people want to hear is considered too much of a liability, and people will be scared their party will lose if they put too much of a risky candidate out.

Why broken promises? Because it's a game and that's how you play. All of life is a game.

They believe the ends justify the means. This only damages spender confidence, and the economy. Stopping spending will hopfuly get them to reduce the top heavy government. But they will probably just print more money. We are screwed

Money and power talk and they answer to them instead of voters.

When voters ask questions, they give long answers. When their lobbyists ask questions, they go behind closed doors. This is the very reason that make some people turn to violent against them.

Because it's expedient (a means to an end). They are trying to get themselves elected to an office. If it brings them closer to this, they'll promise almost anything.
