Why hasn't Xerox PARC been recognised as a major player in the Computer Industry?

Although all the technological breakthroughs listed on this page are quite... Overwhelming...

I've never even heard of them before studying IST. And I don't want answers like , "It's a Cruel World" because this is for an IST assignment!

    Because while they were great at innovating, they were not very successful at commercialising their inventions, leaving the mass market exploitation of the WIMP interface to Apple and Microsoft.

    People remember the name of the company that makes the product not the company that invented it.

    eg. Anybody know who invented th eMP3 format? No, but everybody knows who has exploited it the best - Apple.
