Obsidian is a black volcanic glass that was traded widely in Mexico even before Cortez stepped on the shore. I bought three obsidian blades on the Zocalo in Mexico City on one of my trips to Mexico. We had a three hour lay-over in DF, so we hopped on the Metro and went to the Zocalo. After coming out of the church, I saw a guy at the curb with a handkerchief spread out and an assortment of things on it. We struck a price (I don't remember how much anymore) for the three blades, and I wrapped them in a piece of paper and stuck them in my shirt pocket.
If you're looking for some obsidian worked into a piece of jewelry, Then you want to go to Taxco and I'm sure you would find a nice piece of jewelry with a piece of obsidian in it. Watch the video below.Source(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrVB9UDmIGI
