There are at least 40 reasons why we need to ban guns now. Why won't our leaders do so?

1. Banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, Detroit & Chicago cops need guns.

2. Washington DC’s low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, and Indianapolis’s high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control.

3. Statistics showing high murder rates justify gun control but statistics showing increasing murder rates after gun control are “just statistics.”

4. The Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, both of which went into effect in 1994 are responsible for the decrease in violent crime rates, which have been declining since 1991.

5. We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid.

6. The more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals.

7. An intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum will get angry and kill you.

8. A woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.

9. When confronted by violent criminals, you should “put up no defense - give them what they want, or run” (Handgun Control Inc. Chairman Pete Shields, Guns Don’t Die - People Do, 1981, p. 125).

10. The New England Journal of Medicine is filled with expert advice about guns; just like Guns & Ammo has some excellent treatises on heart surgery.

11. One should consult an automotive engineer for safer seat belts, a civil engineer for a better bridge, a surgeon for internal medicine, a computer programmer for hard drive problems, and Sarah Brady for firearms expertise.

12. The 2nd Amendment, ratified in 1787, refers to the National Guard, which was created 130 years later, in 1917.

13. The National Guard, federally funded, with bases on federal land, using federally-owned weapons, vehicles, buildings and uniforms, punishing trespassers under federal law, is a “state” militia.

14. These phrases: “right of the people peaceably to assemble,” “right of the people to be secure in their homes,” “enumerations herein of certain rights shall not be construed to disparage others retained by the people,” and “The powers not delegated herein are reserved to the states respectively, and to the people” all refer to individuals, but “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” refers to the state.

15. “The Constitution is strong and will never change.” But we should ban and seize all guns thereby violating the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments to that Constitution.

16. Rifles and handguns aren’t necessary to national defense! Of course, the army has hundreds of thousands of them.

17. Private citizens shouldn’t have handguns, because they aren’t “military weapons”, but private citizens shouldn’t have “assault rifles”, because they are military weapons.

18. In spite of waiting periods, background checks, fingerprinting, government forms, etc., guns today are too readily available, which is responsible for recent school shootings. In the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s,anyone could buy guns at hardware stores, army surplus stores, gas stations, variety stores, Sears mail order, no waiting, no background check, no fingerprints, no government forms and there were no school shootings.

19. The NRA’s attempt to run a “don’t touch” campaign about kids handling guns is propaganda, but the anti-gun lobby’s attempt to run a “don’t touch” campaign is responsible social activity.

20. Guns are so complex that special training is necessary to use them properly, and so simple to use that they make murder easy.

21. A handgun, with up to 4 controls, is far too complex for the typical adult to learn to use, as opposed to an automobile that only has 20.

22. Women are just as intelligent and capable as men but a woman with a gun is “an accident waiting to happen” and gun makers’ advertisements aimed at women are “preying on their fears.”

23. Ordinary people in the presence of guns turn into slaughtering butchers but revert to normal when the weapon is removed.

24. Guns cause violence, which is why there are so many mass killings at gun shows.

25. A majority of the population supports gun control, just like a majority of the population supported owning slaves.

26. Any self-loading small arm can legitimately be considered to be a “weapon of mass destruction” or an “assault weapon.”

27. Most people can’t be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by because they can be trusted.

28. The right of Internet pornographers to exist cannot be questioned because it is constitutionally protected by the Bill of Rights, but the use of handguns for self defense is not really protected by the Bill of Rights.

29. Free speech entitles one to own newspapers, transmitters, computers, and typewriters, but self- defense only justifies bare hands.

30. The ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of t

Update:

30. The ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution, and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the Constitution.

31. Charlton Heston, a movie actor as president of the NRA was a cheap lunatic who should be ignored, but Michael Douglas, a movie actor as a representative of Handgun Control, Inc. is an ambassador for peace who is entitled to an audience at the UN arms control summit.

32. Police operate with backup within groups, which is why they need larger capacity pistol magazines than do “civilians” who must face criminals alone and therefore need less ammunition.

33. We should ban “Saturday Night Specials” and other inexpensive guns because it’s not fair that poor people have access to guns too.

34. Police officers have some special Jedi-like mastery over handguns that private citizens can never hope to obtain.

Update 2:

35. Private citizens don’t need a gun for self-protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection.

36. Citizens don’t need to carry a gun for personal protection but police chiefs, who are desk-bound administrators who work in a building filled with cops, need a gun.

37. “Assault weapons” have no purpose other than to kill large numbers of people. The police need assault weapons. You do not.

38. When Microsoft pressures its distributors to give Microsoft preferential promotion, that’s bad; but when the Federal government pressures cities to buy guns only from Smith & Wesson, that’s good.

39. Trigger locks do not interfere with the ability to use a gun for defensive purposes, which is why you see police officers with one on their duty weapon.

40. Handgun Control, Inc., says they want to “keep guns out of the wrong hands.” Guess what? You have the wrong hands.

I didn't even get past #1 on your rant.

I am from Chicago (15 miles outside city limits).

Chicago has had a gun ban for 29 years.

A total of 510 people were murdered in Chicago during 2008. eighty percent of

these victims were killed by gunfire. nearly half were between the ages of 10 and 25,

and the vast majority were male.

    I'll keep my guns, thanks.

    Did I mention #'s 31-40 I do agree with.

No, I don't agree, but then that is way too much to read. And what did you say about a trigger lock and that you can still use it? What to hit them over the head with? Because when the trigger lock is put on my 9mm, you are not able to still shot it, so that is false! I can maybe hit some one over the head with it but that is all. Have you ever even seen a trigger lock? Do you even know what one looks like? Believe me police do not walk around with trigger locks on their weapons, if they did they would die before they ever got if off the weapon. I use to date a Sargent with the San Diego PD, his pistol didn't have a trigger lock. A trigger lock is a big bolt type of object that is place behind the trigger & when both parts are pushed together it closes off the trigger area compleatly, so that you can not even fit your finger into the trigger area. And it gets locked. That bad boy won't go off it your begged it to! I think perhaps you are referring to the safty catch on the gun and not a trigger lock! The safty will keep the weapon from being fired as long as you don't push it forward and make the weapon ready for duty carry. Two different things all together! I have a right to own my pistol. What are we going to do, take the guns away from all the good people and the criminals will still have theirs. Yea, or not! I don't think so. Gun laws can always be improved upon. And there are some people who do need to get a brain and store their weapons properly. That goes with out saying. With all that #18 says, what happened? I think there is just more evil in this world. Plus, parents are not paying attention to what their own children are doing. Let's face it, it's true! Any child that can build bombs in their own house with their parents right there has a problem! Houston that is a problem. Hey, so if they didn't have guns, then they would just build bombs and do it that way. Really I don't think that getting rid of guns is the answer, it is called education. Ha Ha, that makes me laugh. If people want a gun they can make one out of wood. They can make one, that when it's taken apart it just looks like some junk off your dads work bench. You wouldn't even know it's a gun. If an inmate can make one don't you think any one can. It will only fire one shot at a time but it does work. A gun is a gun is a gun!! Been there seen that! And you? And I'm a Democrat!

In the UK where there are no guns (by law) there were 58 shootings last year and 688 stabbing deaths. What do they do when they have home break ins while the home owner is home, the home owner makes them a cup of tea and waits for the police to come so they can file a police report.

I live in New Mexico where you don't have to have a permit to carry any weapon exposed, you can have a gun in your vehicle (extension of your home) and at age 21 you can get a concealed carry permit if you pay the fees, take the training and do the background checks.

If we have burglers that enter our homes while the owner is at home we are expected to apply lethal force. Then we fill out the police reports and usually get an atta boy on the news.

In Catron County New Mexico it's the law for all adults to be armed and there has not been a shooting related death since the law was passed (except for some wolves).

I have to comment on this because obviously most people who have posted an answer have not even read your post which makes their answers look very ridiculous. They're getting angry with you when it is obvious you are on their side.

Obviously this is meant to be a SARCASTIC question. The reasons are very sarcastic and show why guns should not be banned. If people would actually read the reasons and not just the question they would see that. The people posting must have been weary from having to read the question and just couldn't possibly finish reading the whole thing.

I agree though that banning guns doesn't make much sense, and that is the point he is trying to make.

In the event you generally be concerned about the safety of yourself and your loved ones from the bad enemies and you still do not know what direction to go if that really poor situation happens for sure, you do not have to be worried anymore, since there https://tr.im/UfcDw is Patriot Self Defense that will be the many perfect guidance for you personally to be able to have great activities of self-defense. It will make you ready to guard your self and your family in a bad situation.

Look, there's number trick evidence process out there. That is an awesome process with useful information that anybody who hasn't performed any such thing to prepare to defend their household can make up and begin to use correct away. There is really no purpose to not provide it a try. You'll positively have the ability to learn things even in less than one time, things that other course will learn you in months.

You know, it would so simple, ban guns = solve problems. But i dont see it this way, and when observed logically, a lot of people would also disagree with you and heres why. Crime doesnt occur because of a weapons existence, it occurs because of an individuals motivation (whatever it may be). If guns were gone altogether murders with knoves or homemade bombs or poisons would go up, guns arnt really proven to be a primary cause for the crimes they are envolved in. It also is against the constitution (dont EVER try to eliminate anything from our constitution, you will never get a positive response from democratic idealists). The idea of an unarmred populis is a solid argument as well, although in my opinion the government could out gun us any day. On top of it all, a lot of your points are faulty in this argument

    40. Thats a judgement call, and a very cliche and childish one

    39. As a PO, our guns dont have trigger locks in the field, the holster locks the gun in place, but the trigger is completely free outside of the holster

    38. political opinion

    37. True thats what assault weapons are for, but ones available to citizens are not ANYTHING CLOSE to as functional as the ARs available to the millitary or any LEA, they are more or less just things to bring to the range, thats all.

36.... how does this argue for a gun ban?

    35. Out of context, the SC is simply claiming that the police are not responsible for your personal safety, yes you have to think for yourself sometimes, but police are legally obligated to respond to threats against your safety

MOst after those dont even make sense such as Rifles being unecessary and handguns being unecessary in the millitary... but im sure you get the point.

    1. I only had to read your first "reason." You left out Miami, what has the crime rate there done after Florida became a carry friendly state. Meaning they let law abiding people carry concealed. I did not read in your manifesto where you claim any drop in crime in any country that has taken guns away from the middle class.

When was there a "mass shooting at gun shows?'' When have you seen a cop caring a duty pistol "locked"?

Quit pulling on it kid, it will grow on it's own.

    Have a nice day.

    Dave

(Oh, and if you need help getting to a nation that has disarmed it's people let us know, we will pass a hat, if not then good luck running for Pres. on the democratic ticket in 2116)

Notice how they get more and more ridiculous as you go down the list...how many more lame brain excuses can we make to make guns look bad, when it's really the people using them that are the problem.

I've had guns all my life and they've never hurt any person....only the animals we bring home for food later. Or the squirrel that was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When are you going to realize that guns don't shoot all by themselves?

There are several really good reasons to keep them legal and a big fat list of stupid reasons to make them illegal...thats why the government hasn't looked in to this (besides the fact that it's a constitutional right).

  • 1 decade ago

Your entire reasoning here is ridiculous. Many of your points here are just opinion such as:

    6. The more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals.

Explain Virginia Tech shooting. Students were lined up and killed, wouldn't all of those students have been safer if someone could have fought back?

    8. A woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.

Another opinion, since all morals are not universal. Would you rather be a woman who was raped or not? Ask that question and i assure that nearly 100 out of 100 woman would say i would rather not have been raped. How do you explain to the women who are raped that they should have just accepted it and done nothing about it?

There is one principal why we won't ban guns:

When the government or law enforcement falls into corrupt hands: how can we defend ourselves?

We will never abandon our right to bear arms for as long as it is possible that the government, police, or even our neighbors, can hurt us.

Its a primary principle of our fathers, without having guns to fight the British army, we would not be the America we are today.

Keep in mind: a good, just, and honest man migth abide by gun laws, but a bad, dishonest, evil man will always find means to get a gun, and for as long as the good man has his arms too, the bad man cannot win.

    Ciao!

I'm going to make this short and sweet for you. Taking away guns only takes them away from people who would be responsible with them. If someone is going to kill someone, they are going to get a gun illigally. They obviously don't care if they break the law so they will do it without a second thought.
