The word Holocaust was coined by a Polish-Jewish historian to describe actions by the Ottoman Empire against Armenian people to destroy and eliminate Armenian ethnic, religious and cultural identity from present day Turkey. Several million Armenians perished including men, woman and children.

By definition, it is applicable to describe American treatment of Native Americans Indians; German (Hitler) crusade to wipe out Jews in which Jews were murdered, worked to death and executed by mass executions in gas chambers. In Africa, a number of holocausts are underway including Muslim against non-Muslim and tribal nations against other tribal nations.

Holocausts are the outgrowth of powerful dominant ethnic governments seeking to unite local disparate but similar ethnic forces against a weaker separately identifiable religious, racial or ethnic group to enforce a selfish dominant authority (power and money) and improve self-preservation.

Use of the word "Holocaust" is highly politically charged because of universal disgust and disapproval of such actions.

Claims of "holocaust" against Palestinians is inaccurate and disingenuous because no unique Palestinian Culture or identity is being embattled.

On the other hand, compare the words of the new Iranian President who wants to wipe out the "Jews" in the Middle East. Too much of the Middle East conflict is brought by nation states seeking a second "Jewish Holocaust" and utilizing this goal to draw local political and public attention against internal problems of political extremism, sexist discrimination, totalitarian control, absence of personal freedoms, educational opportunity, rejection of social development, acceptance of political domination by religious leaders and toleration of theft and mismanagement of national resources by the ruling parties

I really support the answer by BLCOHENS. Very well done. Two items not mentioned in all the answers are:

1.Western countries assisted in the mass slaughter by refusing Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis in the 1930's and right up to the war.

    2. IBM was in Germany in the 1930's and helped the Germans implement a card index system which greatly assisted the Germans to identify and round up Jews more quickly.

    We were all guilty.

this is because of the way the Jews have been slaughtered. Holocaust comes sort the Greek notice holokaustus, intending to burn or consume by utilizing hearth. those others slaughters did no longer make the main of the capacity of hearth as did the Nazis.

That the people who orchestrated it also believed the old quote we've been hearing a lot these days: If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
