true or false: Topic: Gumbo ?
Is gumbo considered a soup?
- Dave CLv 71 decade agoFavorite Answer
I would consider Gumbo more like a stew since it's served over rice, while soups are meant to be eaten as is.
For example, Chicken noodle soup can be eat as is or served with crackers... while gumbo is not gumbo unless served over rice. Gumbo is not meant to be easten as is.

Gumbo is a soup or stew that has okra as one of the ingredients.

I have some recipes that are soupy, and others that are thicker--like stew. I prefer the soupier type served around an island of rice.

I would say true, judging by the more traditional ones I've had. The only one that were more like stew weren't very good and done by people who didn't really know what they were doing.
Hope that helps.
