GOEBBELS and his propaganda's contribution to the HOLOCAUST. PLEASE HELP!?
I'm quite stuck. I'm writing an essay on Joseph Goebbels, propaganda minister. it starts out as his biography..easy. Then I turn it into his contribution to the death of 6 million people and how most people lay all the blame on Hitler. However, Goebbels, whom we don't hear as much of, is one of the main causes of the whole Nazi movement against the Jews, ultimately leading to the Final Solution. Without propaganda to create a Nationalistic feel and hatred toward a people group, who are the 'cause of all their problems', the Nazi party would never have been nearly as successful. The propaganda brainwashes people. Had their been none of Goebbels propaganda, millions of people would have lived.
NOW my problem is, this is all I can think of to write. I need more supporting facts and arguments. I need to be more long winded. I could mention more points. However, in my research, this view doesn't seem to really exist in writing, not that I can find. All i find is the facts of History. So could anyone send me (a LONG, if possible) their opinion or elaborate or contribute to what I've said. Maybe you have an interesting link to send me to. PLLLLEEEEEASSSEEE help me! i need to write MANY more pages and I am very quickly running out of things to say.
thank you :)

Goebbels und die Juden - Holocaust and Genocide Studies 20:2 Holocaust and Genocide Studies . Goebbels und die Juden is a revised dissertation completed at the University of Mainz. Christian Barth reports that while working on the project he encountered skepticism that there was anything more to say either about Goebbels or his antisemitism. His careful research proves the skeptics wrong. He has made a valuable addition to previous works on Goebbels by Jay Baird, Ernst Bramsted, Richard Herzstein, and Ralf Reuth by focusing on the continuity and depth of Goebbels' hatred of the Jews and his key role in infusing Nazi propaganda with antisemitism. Barth examines Goebbels' role from the mid-1920s, when his antisemitism was fully crystallized, through the Holocaust. He relies heavily on the over twenty volumes of the Goebbels diaries published since 1987, while making rather less use of Goebbels' readily available published texts. ...

Agree with Caolan. You have got sidetracked and you should go back to your biographical task, with just a short passage on G's role in the holocaust.
Goebbels was successful in three different departments - as Gauleiter of Berlin, as Propaganda Minister and as a last ditch fighter.
As Gauleiter he took the lead in clearing Berlin of Jews, and as Propaganda minister he was responsible for films like Der Ewige jude which helped prepare people's minds, but he did not have as great a responsibility for the Holocaust as Himmler.
What is more, don't forget that the actual carrying out of the Holocaust was secret, or at least it was not reported in public. So any propaganda had to be indirect. This by itself deals a mortal blow to your thesis.

I can't really add anything, because, quite frankly, your thesis is shallow and you've said all you can really say.
However, i will point out that your point that the nazi party wouldn't be successful without the mass murder of jews, is incorrect. Hitler genuinely believed jews were a problem. He, however, rose to power through amplifying the German peoples distaste with the treaty of Versailles and the treatment recieved by the allied nations whom, basically, ran Germany into the ground, and actually below a 3rd world nation.

Because they are both Socialists. Nazi is short for the German National SOCIALIST Workers Party. Barrack Obama wants to form his own unit of Brown Shirts. If you listened to his Campaign rhetoric he wants a paramilitary force the equivalent of the military separate from the military. The Democratic Party is the American Socialist Party. They have many of the same views. Do you really think that Adolph Hitler got elected running on a platform of extermination of Jews and the beginning of a war with the entire world? Adolph Hitler got elected on a platform of change... just like Barrack Obama. Don't believe me read the histories.

Goebbels was certainly important but the war and the massacres would have happened anyway.
Hitler was the main driving force for these and all policy came from him.

nazis believed that germany lost ww1 because of treachery of jews who supported the french and england. they were also envious of jews who owned businesses in germany. jews were therefore targetted by nazis as enemies.nazis arrested all jews they could find and confiscated their property everything including their clothing and teeth. crazy nazis. as war was going agaisnt nazis, they looked at jews both as a burden ( having to keep them in camps ) as well as point of hatred as if it were the jews' fault that germany was losing. goebbels and hitler both hated the jews. no doubt in that. nazi propaganda called jews subhumans. they came up with final solution for systematic killing of the jews.
its not true that goebels propaganda on its own led to final solution. hitler hated the jews even without the propaganda. the propaganda was directed to the german people. propaganda was based on nazi ideology. not just goebels. dont excuse or defend hitler. hitler surrounded himself with people as evil as he was and they all decided on the final solution.

look up " final solution" on your search engine, it will enlighten you. also look up the pink swastika for information on how gay activists were instrumental in the Nazi's initioal formation and their rise to power.

At the same time as the stormtroopers were pulverizing Nazism,s opponents, Hitler and Goebbels were putting in place the means by which passive supporters would be won over to become active participants in the 'National Socialist revolution', and waverers and the sceptical would be bought round to a more co-operative frame of mind. The new government, declared Goebbels at a press conference on 15 March 1933, .........will not be satisfied for long with the knowledge that it has 52 per cent behind it while terrorizing the other 48 per cent but will, by contrast, see its next task as winning over that other 48 per cent for itself........It is not enough to reconcile people more or less to our regime, to move them towards a position of neutrality towards us, we want rather to work on people until they have become addicted to us..................
Goebbels's statement was as interesting for its admission that nearly half the population was being terrorized as it was for its declared ambition of winning the hearts and minds of those people who had not voted for the coalition in the election of 5 March......... There would be a 'spiritual mobilization' comparable to the massive military mobilization of 1914. And in order to bring this mobilization about, Hitler's government put into affect its most original institutional creation.....the 'Reich Ministry for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda', established by a special decree on 13 March. The post of Minister, with a seat in the cabinet, was given to Joseph Goebbels.
Goebbels, made his reputation as Regional Leader of Berlin, where his fiery speeches, his incessant activity, his outrageous provocations of the Nazi's opponents, and his calculated staging of street-fights and meeting-hall brawls to gain the attention of the press won the party a mass of new adherents. Goebbels's violence and extremism earned the Nazi Party in Berlin an eleventh-month ban from the city's Social Democratic authorities in 1927/1928; but they also won him the allegiance and admiration of younger activists such as the 19 year-old Horst Wessel.
In the summer of 1941 leading Nazis back home in Berlin knew about the mass killing spree being conducted in the Soviet Union against Soviet Jews and questioned why the German Jews should not be amongst them. Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Propaganda minister and Gautleiter of Berlin, was one of those who took the lead in pushing for the Jews of Berlin to be forcibly deported East.
At a meeting on 15 August (1941) Goebbels' state secretary , Leopold Gutterer, pointed out that of the 70,000 Jews in Berlin only 19,000 were working ( a situation, of course, that the Nazis had created themselves by enforcing a series of restrictive regulations against German Jews)
The rest, argued Gutterer, ought to be 'carted of to Russia....the best of all actually would be to kill them'. And when Goebbels himself met Hitler on 19 August he made a similar case for the swift deportation of the Berlin Jews.
Dominant in Goebbels' mind was the Nazi fantasy of the role that German Jews had played during World War One. While German soldiers had suffered at the front line, the Jews had supposedly been profiting from the bloodshed back in the safety of the big cities (in reality, of course, German Jews had been dying at the front in proportionately the same numbers as their fellow countrymen).
At this stage of the war Hitler did not relent to Goebbels's request, nevertheless the future of those Jews in Berlin had been cemented. In fact, it was only in September that Hitler changed his mind to allow same, after the bombing by the British of the city of Hamburg and the Gauleiter (Karl Kaufmann) had written to Hitler basically requesting the same to deport the Jews from Hamburg.
Goebbels knew that people would not tolerate a diet of unremitting propaganda. Already in May 1933 he began turning down requests from Nazi Party bosses keen to hear their voices on the radio, and limited broadcasts of political speeches to two a month. Radio, said the Propaganda Minister, had to be imaginative, modern, up-to-date. 'The first law', he told radio managers on 25 March 1933; 'Don't become boring!' They were not to fill their programmes with martial music and patriotic speeches. They had to use their imagination. But this advise despite the purging of the radio stations by the Nazis was barely followed and despite all his efforts his propaganda it was not enough to sway the voting public. Goebbels told a rally of the Berlin region of the Nazi Party on 30 June 1935, 'that we haven't noticed how the Jews are trying once again to spread themselves over all our streets. The Jews ought please to observe the laws of hospitality and not behave as if they were the same as us.' Reporting on 15 July that an antisemitic film had been jeered at by 'troops of Jewish trouble-makers' on its first performance three days previously, Goebbels's Berlin Party paper 'The Attack' urged Party members to take violent action with the result that Jews were beaten up in the main street and being followed into shops, pubs and bars to do same. Goebbels's propaganda campaign was powerful but weak at the same time, despite his intelligence, hard work and devotion it took years for his work to truly pay off to power the Nazis into a better political position to win government and only because of the ruthlessness of the Party 'Leader' did they manage to achieve their goal.Source(s): The Coming of the Third Reich........................................................
