Can the fetus feel pain?

Just something I am wondering about. Apparently, to abort a baby, the doctor will have to break up the little fetus and suck it the pieces with a vacuuming surgical instrument. My question is whether the fetus can FEEL it. Does anyone know what stage of development fetuses start to sense pain? I don't see fetuses as living beings YET (because they haven't EXPERIENCED living yet) but I just wonder if they can it when a doctor breaks them apart.

P.S, Don't "save" me from being an Atheist ok. Learn to accept others and don't tell that abortion is wrong or any of that stuff. It's irrelevant to MY QUESTION.

thank you :)

smart people, I am NOT pregnant. Do not assume. I am just a curious learner. I LOVE to learn.

Update 2:

*this is regarding the first trimester of the baby's development.

    A purely scientific view point . . . . .

Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded in a meta-analysis of data from dozens of medical reports and studies that fetuses are unlikely to feel pain until the third trimester of pregnancy.[2][3] There is an emerging consensus among developmental neurobiologists that the establishment of thalamocortical connections (at about 26 weeks) is a critical event with regard to fetal perception of pain.

*By the third trimester a human life has been created.

Before the third trimester the pregnancy could still be aborted for a multitude of reasons and it cannot survive (not without extreme and morally ambiguous measures) outside the womb.

*This is what I was required to read for my Embryology course for my degree in Biology. More people who have strong opinions about abortion should be educated about fetal development.

By just a few weeks, the fetus gains many of its senses. (:

And touch is the very first one it gains, pain being an implied feeling they're capable of having.

So I'm guessing they can feel it because abortions can be performed up until, like, about 3 months or so.

It would need a nervous system of some kind which isn't until around 28 weeks.

If you step on something as tiny as a ladybug, does it feel pain?

Yes, it has been studied that a fetus does feel pain. It just cannot

    emphasize it's anguish.

you shouldve used a condom instead of punishing him and killing him. and dont worry if he can feel pain or not. either way your mind is still set in killing him.
