Cheap Hotels near the Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal Quebec?

i realize that there are travel sites to help me with this but im 19 and planning a trip with some friends and the sites are extremely confusing and time consuming. we are planning on going to a mayhem festival on sunday july 25 but want to stay the weekend. july 23 to the 26. Parc Jean Drapeau is near or in Old Montreal, and many places are ridiculously expensive. 300 a night!!!! there are 6 of us and we are hoping to keep the hotel bill under $1000 after tax. but most places wont allow more then 4 people in a room. taking into consideration we are all students. and are paying for this ourselves with the little money we can make. i hope that there is someone out there that can point me in the right direction for a cheap hotel. quality is irrelevant to us we just need a roof :) thanks to anyone who can help!!! maybe even point me in the direction of a better travel site then Travelocity and Hotwire.

When we went up we stayed at a place called Manior St. Denis, on the corner of Ontario and St. Denis streets. It's a bummy hotel but cheap, near the latin quarter near a strip of bars and about a 5 min walk to the Metro (Subway) Berri station that will take you to parc jean-drapeau in 1 stop. There are also cheap hotels near there on St. Hubert st. as well.

incase you don't know, mayhem festival in Montreal is called Heavy Montreal and is actually 2 days long with a bigger line up:

You would also be in close proximity to some Metal bars:

Foufounes Electriques -5 min walk west on St. Catherine (3 floors with a mosh pit, where the action is on sat, every night is not metal so cheak the website)

Smaller bars if thats what you prefer:

Cafe Chaos -1 min walk north on st. denis

Katacombs -5 min walk west on the corner of Ontario and St. Laurent

Just to clarify... Parc Jean-Drapeau is on an island close/next to "downtown" Montreal. There is a Metro (subway) station on the island and therefore, proximity to the site should not be an issue if the purpose of your trip is a mayhem festival! There are tons of hotels in and around Montreal that are close to a metro station - That should be your #1 priority (hotel/motel near public transit). Just make sure that the hotel you select is "ON" the island of Montreal (yes Montreal is also an island!) as it is much easier for public transit. If you cannot find anything suitable ($$$) for your needs, email me at heywelio@yahoo.com and I will try to assist. Cheers!.
