How many teams were in the Ontario Rugby Football Union (ORFU) and what were their names?

The ORFU was a football league which used to play in Grey Cup Games up to the end of the Second World War. What happened to the league? What happened to the teams?

The Ontario Rugby Football Union or ORFU was an early amateur Canadian football league with teams in the Canadian province of Ontario. The ORFU was founded in 1883 and in 1903 became the first major competition to adopt the Burnside Rules, from which the modern Canadian football code would evolve.

During the second world war, the military teams in Ontario played in the ORFU filling the gap during the suspension of play by the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union. (Toronto Navy - H.M.C.S. York played out of Varsity Stadium using the Toronto Argonauts equipment and uniforms.) The Toronto R.C.A.F. Hurricanes were the last amateur team to win the Grey Cup in 1942. Many from the ranks of the military teams in the ORFU became stars in the CFL after the war.

The ORFU champion challenged for and won the Grey Cup in its early decades, but by the 1950s their challenges proved to be perennial failures against the stronger professional interprovincial leagues, the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union and the Western Interprovincial Football Union. The ORFU withdrew from Grey Cup competition in 1954 in a move that heralded the start of the modern era of Canadian football. The ORFU ceased to operate as a true senior league after 1960, but continued play at the intermediate level. Eventually the word "senior" came to replace the word "intermediate." By 1974, the ORFU had ceased to exist.

    Brantford Redmen

    Bramalea Satellites

Presumably this is an assignment and you are to answer for school. Don't, therefore, classify it as a "question." You are being intellectually dishonest by doing so.

You are really asking someone to do your work for you. You are being academically dishonest by doing so.

Are you prepared to pay out good money, like a few hundred dollars, to some mercenary who will do it for you? No? Hmmm, I didn't think so. Why should anyone else do your work for nothing?

These are questions that should be reasonably easy to answer, if you have performed the minimal amount of research. For goodness sake, such information is available all over the Internet. All you need to do is read what is available, digest it, then poop it out.

You are spending more time trying to get somebody else to do the work for you than you would spend if you did it yourself.

Furthermore, if you do the work that has been assigned, you will probably get a better grade than if you relied on what someone else wrote.

**Remember, there are many mischievous people on the Internet who would love to provide totally incorrect information, just to make you look foolish.**

So get to work, conduct your research, write your paper, and learn something valuable in the process.

Football: AFC Wimbledon. Not the biggest, but certainly the best. Rugby: As much as I hate them, Harlequins are currently the ONLY rugby union side actually based in London. Wasps are much better but they play out in Wycombe. Cricket: This one is easy. Surrey are far and away the greatest team. Middlesex are so bad they are not even in the top division, and haven't won anything for about 15 years.
