How long is the general conscensus for the illegal oil spill in the gulf of Mexico reaching the great lakes?

    It will never reach the Great Lakes. For one, the areas around the shorelines and mouths of the rivers will take it all; and for second, rivers run downstream *towards* the ocean, not the other way around.

    Well, more importantly than running toward the Oceans, the Gulf and the Great lakes are not even in the same watershed. Even if they were connected, the first answer is correct, they would flow in opposite directions. However, the Great lakes drain into the North Atlantic (through the St. Lawrence sea way) and the Mississippi drains into the gulf (not the other way around).
