It is in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, the land illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1948. After the 1948 war, the UN declared a ceasefire and asked the troops of both the nations to return to their de-facto positions, i.e.- the ones declared clearly by the British before transferring powers. But the stubborn Pakistani troops refused to budge and the then Indian PM, Nehru chose to please them on his own. But that was never realized and Pakistan continues to occupy this vast territory. It is one-third of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is in pakistan K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth (after Mount Everest). With a peak elevation of 8,611 metres (28,251 ft), K2 is part of the Karakoram segment of the Himalayan range, and is located on the border between Pakistan's northern territories, and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China. K2 is known as the Savage Mountain due to the difficulty of ascent and the 3rd highest fatality rate among the 'eight thousanders' for those who climb it. For every four people who have reached the summit, one has died trying.
