    Depends on what you consider a automobile

    Romans does automatic wagon count ? if yes stop here if no read next line

    Da Vinci does coming up with the plans count ? if yes stop here if no read next line

    Cugnot does a tank count ? if yes stop here if no read next line

    Benz if the three above dont then him.

    M Benz. There were many earlier people who made autos of some type, but by the time Benz invented his (modern) automobile, there was enough demand to allow him to build/sell multiple units. His company was the largest in the world by the late 1800s.
