You won't get a coherent answer from alties. They will happily assert something improves immunity, but then fall short of an explanation. Improve immunity to what? The flu? For that you need vaccination - the flu vaccination actually contains virus - dead or inactivated - which stimulates the immune system to recognize it as foreign, destroy it, and 'remember' it so it can destroy any later infection. That's how it works - eating mushrooms won't do it.

For the common cold there is nothing you can do, except look after yourself; maintain a healthy balanced diet, get plenty of exercise and good rest, avoid crowds and sick people, wash your hands frequently.

Shiitake mushrooms has lentinans, a beta-glucan that is said to help stimulate the immune system.

L-ergothioneine is another antioxidant component found in the mushroom that may have certain cancer-preventive properties.

  • Shiitake mushrooms contain at least one of the 8 glyconutrients---sugars the body needs to heal itself. I'm not sure which one, but I do know that it works.....

They don't. That's just a marketing gimmick used to sell supplements.
