If the United States is a "Christian nation"...?

Then why isn't it a Theocracy?

By Christian Nation do you mean that the majority of people in the USA are Christians? Or by Christian Nation you mean it was founded on Christianity and on the Bible.

So, if it was...why isn't it a Theocracy?

The United States is not a "Christian nation".

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;..."

    — from the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

"... no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

    — from Article VI of the U.S. Constitution

"The Government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion."

    — from The Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11, written during the administration of President George Washington, signed by President John Adams, and unanimously approved by the Senate in 1797

"E Pluribus Unum" (Out of many, one)

    — The original national motto

The founding fathers knew that a theocracy would be a stupid idea. Only the Calvinists tried that and it didn't work out well. When "Christian Nation" is used, it means that this was a nation founded on the ideals of Christianity. This doesn't mean that everyone must become Christian, it means that we try and maintain Christian values in our government like the golden rule, the commandments and the beatitudes. Essentially nearly every nation is a "Christian nation" in this sense, since most of those values are common sense when it comes to society

No, it's not. The main religion practiced is Christianity but it's not a Christian nation by any means. If it was a Theocracy it would be *shifts a glance over to Iraq*.

Those who claim it's a Christian Nation should be jailed for treason.

The US has freedom of religion; it cannot favor one over others.

The country was not founded on Christian Beliefs.

    That's ridiculous.

The Religious Right is trying to take over America (they already dominate the Republican Party)

    and must be stopped.

As a Christian Nation, the founding fathers prayed before they began drawing up our constitution.

That's because it's not a "christian nation". It's secular, and even the founding fathers said so.

The U.S.A. is not a "Christian nation", it was founded on the principle of separation of church and state.

it's a secular nation - a good chunk of the founding fathers were non-religious --- the people who call it a christian nation are fluffing their own ego/agenda....

'Christianity' is to reject YAHUSHUA, and Torah Keeping. So if the nation is 'Christian' it is thus heathen, and not following YHVH or scripture.
