Can any ESD damage occur if the power supply is not connected?

To exaggerate for emphasis: what if I take a motherboard that is not connected to a power supply and rub it on a furry cat and then place it in the tower (which is metal) and then connect the power supply, can any damage occur?

Also, what if I drop a charged screw on the motherboard (while the power supply is still not connected), and then pick it up and screw it in the right place and then connect the power supply, can any damage occur?

Is opening the PSU circuit or turning off the PSU appliance approximately equal to fully pulling the cable?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
