my computer wont read cds when i put them in, help me?

i have a dell computer running windows xp, every time i insert a cd or dvd my computer wont read it.

if i open up my computer it wont show the icon of the cd, i probably uninstalled the cd drive but idk how i did or when.

If that doesn't work you may simply need to blow some compressed canned air in it to clean dust out or it may just need replaced. They are easy to replace and not expensive to buy (for a desktop computer that is).
