Homepage keeps changing to isearch.whitesmoke.com?

Hey guys, for a bit over a month now, my Internet homepage would sometimes automatically change from google.com to isearch.whitesmoke.com. Doesn't happen every day. Maybe every 3 days or so. I just find this very weird, can anyone enlighten me? I hope it's not a virus or something. Thanks in advance!

It is most likely a virus/malware that has infected your computer. To keep from getting this type of virus/malware you should run an up to date antivirus. Set your program to scan your computer daily at a time when you are not using it.

Since your computer is probably already infected, you should run these programs and all of them are available at http://www.filehippo.com

First, run an antivirus AVG is a good one that is free. Do not click on offers that pop up on your computer that claim your computer is infected and you need to run a scan. Stick to a good antivirus that is trusted. AVG is one that is trusted and has been around for years and has a free version available that works wonderfully.

If the antivirus does not find anything then download Spybot Search and Destroy. It is another program that is very good at spotting malicious software.

If none of that works, try downloading Trend Micro's Hijack This. WARNING! Be very careful when using this program because it modifies your registry of your computer. Just know what you are doing before deleting anything Hijack This finds.

You may need to run the antivirus programs in Safe Mode on your computer. That will eliminate all the unnecessary programs and only run what your computer absolutely has to have to function.

One other possibility for getting rid of the problem is to do a System Restore.

Lastly, Microsoft has a malicious software removal tool that can be helpful. You can find it on the Microsoft web site by searching for Malicious Software Removal Tool.

If all else fails, you may have to wipe the hard drive. However, this malware probably will not require that.

Good luck with getting rid of this malware infection
