what's the need for mega-armies when people are starving?

Divine providence has it, that every person on earth should have enough resources on earth for sustenance. Instead, we divert our funds towards mega armies, mega bombs and more terrifying modes of destruction.

Divine providence: A simple concept, that might one day save the planet. Why is it not taught in schools?

Altruism is the exact opposite of selfishness.

The reason why nations amass armies and large quantities of destructive armaments has more to do with (1) accumulation of power and property (2) control over large swaths of populations through force and (3) the national insecurity complex -- often bred by (4) opposing forces that use armies and destructive armaments to terrorize populations.

In either event, each one of the (4) elements above is connected to (a) selfishness and (b) megalomaniacal, magical thinking. Bigger armies and stronger more destructive armaments mean peace to some.

The expression, "in order to maintain the peace, you must be prepared for war" comes to mind.

And that fits into my annual Christmas theory, Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards all mankind, and Nuclear Weapons to keep it that way.

Our trigger-happy governments would not approve. Simple as that.
