The rescue I work with will spay or neuter a cat as long as it is over 2 pounds in weight, which is usually when it's at least 2 months old or older.

The important thing is to do it before they mature, so they don't go into heat or start spraying.

Kittens can be spayed at two pounds, which is like 8 weeks old. I work at an animal shelter and we pre sterilize all the kittens that will be available for adoption (not the ones we euthanize) at two pounds.

A lot of people think this is too young but the shelter has been doing it for decades and it's fine. I think it's better to spay or neuter younger, they just bounce back quicker

Here is some more info about when to spay and precautions to take if your spaying an old cat = http://www.foundanimals.org/pet-spay-neuter/what-i...

Ideally by 3-4 months old. Kittens as young as 4 months are capable of breeding and at that age if pregnant - it would kill the kitten trying to give birth. Call your vet and have her spayed in the next week or two. Do NOT let her outside to get pregnant.

It goes by weight not age - females should be 2 1/2 pounds (or about 10 weeks). It's called a pediatric spay and it's been safely done in the US for over 20 years. No reason to wait :)

At least 6 months. No longer than that. I just had my 4 year old tortie spayed last week and wish I would've done it a lot earlier. But better late than never.

When i call a vets office to inquire what it would cost to get a cat spayed they told me to wait until the cat was 8 months old to get it spayed because the cat could have problems with holding it urine.

I think it was either 3 or 9 months ( sorry I know there's a larger gap of time in between) but in know for sure it's before a year

    6 months

I'm quite certain it's at least 6 months. 6-8 months. Any earlier and I know there's a risk of damaging the urinary tract/bladder.
