New York City Holiday?

I'm planning a holiday for one week to New York in either September 2013 or January 2014 and wondered how much I should take to live, reasonably, for that one week. Obviously NYC is a very expensive place and as such I need a lot of spending money but how much is realistic?

I'm not including hotel, flight & transfers as this is separate, I'm talking about meals, tourist attractions (I plan on getting an NYCPass & 7day Metrocard).

Frankly, you shouldn't have to "bring" any cash at all, if that's what you're asking. I would set aside as much as you think you want to have between now and the day you depart. A reasonable sum of money would be between US$500 and $1000. That would take you pretty far for a week in New York; in fact, you could spend a week and spend less; it all depends on what you plan to do.

Then, stick the money in your bank and bring an ATM card. Make sure your bank's card will work at ATMs in the US (I visited Ireland two years ago and my credit union bank card worked fine nearly everywhere). Take out a little money when you arrive (your bank will handle the exchange rate) and keep the rest on the card. Then just use that to pay for everything. It's safer and you have no risk if the card gets lost or stolen...just call your bank and let them know.

As you're planning, remember that everything you probably want to see in NY has a website, so you'll be able to get a pretty good estimate of what your leisure activities will cost. I would plan on up to $100 per day for meals, based on what you eat, of course.

The best advice you could possibly get here, is eat at 2 Brothers Pizza. They are everywhere in NYC and they are dollar slices. You can live there so ******* cheap that way. & also brooklyn is cheaper than manhattan island.
