Victor biked from his home town to a neighboring city in 5 hours?

Victor biked from his home town to a neighboring city in 5 hours. He biked back to his home town in 3 hrs. His speed on the return trip was 2 miles per hour faster than his speed on the first trip. How far apart are the two cities.

    Distance=Speed * Time

    first part D= R*5

    second: D=(R+2)*3

    we know the D is the same...so...

    5R=(R+2)*3

    5R=3R+6

    2R=6

    R=3

    so the first is D= 3*5 or 15,

    the next is (3+2)*3 which is 15

    so 15 miles!
