Why are couples portrayed this way in television and cartoons?
Family Guy - Lois (skinny and attractive) Peter (idiotic and grossly overweight)
King of Queens - Carrie (skinny and attractive) Doug (idiotic and overweight)
The Simpsons - Marge (skinny and attractive) Homer (idiotic and overweight)
The Cleveland Show - Donna (average build and attractive) Cleveland (slightly overweight)
I just notice that, in some shows (obviously not all) are portrayed with an overweight and idiotic husband. Why?

That reminds me of a quote Karen spouted in an old 'Will and Grace' episode--she's surfing the channels and hollering, 'fat guy-skinny wife,' fat guy-skinny wife,' over and over. Maybe it goes back to Jackie Gleason in 'The Honeymooners.' Maybe they're all paying homage to Ralph Kramden. Just a thought.

Because this appeals to some people's sense of humour.
