Is Chief information officer (CIO) as important as it once was?

Hello there, please help me, i want to understand why not everyone thinks the Chief information officer (CIO) is as important as other members in the main board.

Any personal information and Links to sites i should check out will fully be appreciated.

Thank You :)

The position of Chief Information Office is just as important in any organizations as say, the Chief Marketing Officer or the Financial Director.

I guess many think otherwise could be that this position is not a 'money generating' portfolio in organization versus Marketing, Sales, etc...
