Edgar after getting into all this trouble from his parents and finding out his girlfriend had someone else he decided to just forget about it all and start fresh. In 1827 Edgar joined the military, and quickly became a sergeant major. While learning in the military academy in West Point Poe published his first book Tamerlane and Other Poems and then Al Aaraaf, Tamberlane, and Minor Poems. Well soon the irresponsible Poe was expelled from the Academy and decided that he will focus on his time on writing full time. In 1935 Poe found a job to work for a magazine called the Southern Literary Messenger as a critic. But was soon fired AGAIN from another place and yet again from alcohol and substance abuse problems. Poe then married Virginia Clemm in secret, and get this she was only 13 years old! In 1939 Poe began creating some of his most famous work, he published Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesques which included “The fall of the house of Usher”, “Ligeia” and many others. In 1942 his wife Virginia began to show signs of Tuberculosis fearing the loss of his wife Poe began to drink much more heavily. On January 29, 1845 Edgar Allan Poe created his most famous poem “The Raven”, this was the height of Poe's career, he became extremely famous although he was only paid 9 dollars for creating one of the most famous poems during that time, that would be equivalent to creating a famous pop song today and getting paid only $200. Virginia died in 1947, from tuberculosis. The death of women in Poe's life influenced the many themes behind his writing. On october 3rd 1849 Poe was found by a man in dire condition and brought him to the hospital where he died from congestion of the brain.
