Israel has been completely silent on exactly what happened. They won't affirm or deny that anything happened at all. US officials confirmed that there has been some sort of military strike by Israel in Syria this past Wednesday. Israel was taking advantage of the continuing unrest in Syria. Israel has an interest in maintaining Assad's rule in Syria, to keep Hezbollah out of power there. Israel doesn't want the rebels to succeed. The US is at least nominally supporting the rebels, so Israel is playing a game of sorts with this action, trying to play the varied interests off each other. They are a crafty bunch, those Israelis. Israel's action certainly could be an excuse to start a bigger problem in the region, but who would initiate it, Assad? Right now no one will. So it was a relatively benign move by Israel at least for now.

They have to continue fighting to protect themselves and they are not counting on the U.S. to back them. It's a fight to the knife until the surrounding Arab nations leave them alone or Israel is wiped out to the last man woman and child.

Have to ask if any, especially the haters, have ever asked themselves if Israel would continue to fight if the attacks by their enemies stopped. The answer is they would stop, they just want to live in peace.

I agree with "Joe in Texas".

Assad is actually very secular Muslim. Not an extremist one.He never really threatened us or did anything dangerous. You never know who Syria's next president(dictator) is going to be.

hink they are stupid. They are relying on the US supporting them but Russia is backing the Assad government so their actions will probably start a real war eventually. One in which Israel will be wiped off the map, and probably the rest of us too

I think it's none of our business. But we should not help Israel when they go around doing whatever they want because they know the U.S. will back them up. Its like a bad kid knowing he has an older brother.

syria was shipping weapons to Lebanon, so Israel should be allowed to bomb away. Heck we should send planes to help.

    It's to protect their country.

Considering highly sophisticated weapons were being shipped to Hezbollah, its understandable that they would strike.

We are better off with the Assad government than we will be with the extremist Islamic state that will replace it.
