Dental x-rays at checkup?

I went in for a dental checkup last week and they did about 20 x-rays since it has been more than 5 years from my last visit, is that too much exposure to radiation?

Also at one point the technician had me hold on to the apparatus with my left hand so they could get a better view of a cavity, so my arm was completely exposed to the x-ray, should I be worried?

A full mouth series (20 x-rays) is standard if you have not bee to the dentist in 5+ years. It's in the recommendations by the ADA.

The x-rays only come out of a small beam that's about 2x3 inches across so your whole arm was not exposed.
